Why the Nash hate? - mhp
He's old (relatively speaking), had a bad year and has a massive salary. Pass.

1.) Extend Risto
2.) Sigh Jimmy Vesey
3.) Sign Boedker, maybe McGinn?
4.) Trade 28 ++ for Fowler
5.) Let the team grow. - 50GinosIn07
Honestly Id be more than thrilled if they did just 1 and 2, especially if risto's is team friendly.
(frank) boedker besides speed he's beyond overrated and I want no part of mcginn either. Gotta find bargains for the bottom 6. |

Filppula is a bad contract they have.
Callahan was traded for.
Their defense with Garrison and Carle is bought. - MillerTime3011
Stralman was a UFA that I forgot. But that was also a good, cheap deal. |

Sign Vesey and a mid level like Boadker or McGinnand go after a D like Shattenkirk. - soljor09

I say no to Nash. I think he is a Richard. He was too good to come to buffalo 4 years ago. F him. We're too good for him now. Stick with the youth. Hoff and Vesey would be great. Hoff is gonna cost a player, Okposo will only cost money, which Sabres should have plenty of without Stammer. I'm good with McGinn too.
Am I in the minority that would rather see Reinhart play with ROR than Eichel? Not saying Eich doesn't have a good work ethic, but Reinhart and ROR are cut from the same mold. ROR/Reinhart/McGinn had great chemistry. - Hatboro_Swords
I really hope this kind of inferiority complex doesn't exist in the Sabres front office, otherwise this team is in trouble. Nash at two more years would help this team provided the cost isn't too high to land him. Okposo is a mistake. He is the kind of guy you add around the trade deadline when your team is ready to be a contender. Committing to him for more than 3 years makes no sense at this stage. The only players you should be committing for that term are elite ones. Okposo isn't that. |

I see that Homer said he has heard Vesey is going to August 15th. I've heard others say the deal is all but done. I hate this one - so hard to know. If he goes to August, this is going to be a long summer... |

I seriously doubt it does, especially with Murray and a player he really likes. |

I wonder how long they wait. If you let it drag out and don't go after a replacement you may wind up missing out by the time august comes around. |

I think the Sabres knew he was going to go to August 15th even before they traded for his rights. The idea was to sell him on the team exclusively and make themselves the standard he measures all of his options by. |

That's my concern. I want him, but he does seem like a whiny little kid - obviously I don't care if we sign him...haha!

I am thinking about Tampa Bay. It seems to me that they waited on their own homegrown talent to progress, and then were in the playoffs one year, and went deep in the two season after that.
Did Tampa ever sign a UFA to a large contract? Boyle is the only one I can think of, but that was cheap. A good model to follow, imo. - rmiethaner

The delusions in the Oilers thread are amazing. They're starting to say they're actually ok with the trade.
The Sabres overpaid in both the ROR and Kane deals, but the key things are that a) they didn't overpay nearly as much as the Oilers did, and b) They got the best player in the deal both times. |

There is only 1 Stamkos
There are only a few Rick Nash's
There are dozens of Girgensons

I'm not sure if you saw the Hall trade, but Ennis and a 3rd gets you kicked in the Richard for asking.

Garth is high if he thinks the Sabres are signing Backus, they aren't. He's another guy that want's 5.5. to 6 a year, I thought I read he turned down an offer from the Blues already that a little over 5 a year. |

But they're willing to give that or more to okposo which honestly is equally as ridiculous. |

Okposo is younger and we have Girgensons if he's not moved, why do we need Backus ? waste of money. There is no reason to start throwing money around just because Stamkos has signed. But he does like Okposo. |
