Wow, somebody needs to chill out. Hockey is about points. Okposo gets points at the same clip as O'Reilly. They've actually had close to the same number of goals in the last 3 years so they're somewhat comparable. You're not going to just say to Okposo "Okay, I only want you scoring goals, no passing the puck at all". He's there to produce goals and whether it's scoring them himself or passing it helps the team.

The days of Tier 1 players hitting FA seem to be over. Stammer could of bucked the trend but he even decided to resign. The only way to obtain elite talent these days is by tanking and obtaining a high draft position. Sure you can send RFA's offer sheets but those are also rare. So unless you're trading for elite Top 6 forwards or Top 4 defenseman you need to draft them. Free agency nonetheless has now become talented players who are looking for big pay days that can be obtained without giving up assets, therefore you are going to see guys like Okposo be paid more then they are worth due to the fact that 10+ teams will be bidding on his services without giving up assets. How do teams like CAR, PHI, NJD or any other team that are on the brink of the playoffs get over the hump ? Nobody they draft is entering their respective lineups this year so unless they trade for talent the days of the Okposo's, Lucic's and Ladd's making 6 M+ is the new normal

You mean that amazing 2 way game that has produced one positive +/- in his career? I mean, if we're mad that Okposo hasn't hit 30 we should be just as upset over the fact that ROR was -16, right?

He still makes the team better. The price tag is going to be the price tag because its July 1st and we're Buffalo.

I don't want him, but I just really don't think it's that big of a deal. Sabres have a lot of money falling off soon so things will work out.

I just don't think the sky is falling because we overpay a player since that's NEVER happened on July 1st.

No, just because it is the first.

Is someone going to overpay for him? Sure. I guess the upside is the guy has a lot of positives about him (I posted them a couple pages back) and really nothing bad to say about him other than his age.
