Which would be a win if McCann doesn't have a long career in a top 6 roll. But if he becomes and 60-70 point guy, then we got bent over again by the cats. - Scooby_Doo
Odds are pretty (frank)in slim of that.....70 point guy is like a 95 point guy from the 80s.... |

What was wrong with the Gudbranson deal? Yeah we draft the best D in the draft, is he a difference maker next year? Will Gud contribute? Troll on. |

Answer the last question Troll. - VanHockeyGuy
I'd rather answer the first one. We gave up a 19 year old NHL player and a high 2nd round draft pick for a guy that so far hasn't lived up to his billing........all while we're rebuilding.
Will he contribute? Hell Alex Biega contributed last year so I sure as hell hope so. We're talking about a fan base that has been pinning their hopes on Philip Larsen turning into Philip Housley.
Just because they wear a Canucks sweater doesn't mean they're awesome. If you've been paying attention I've been advocating drafting a D in the first round for the entire season. |

I'll be happy if JB gets one of Boedker, Ladd, Erikkson or Okposo. I do not want Vanek, he's a floater, we just got rid of one named Vrbata, we don't need another one. If JB can't get someone in the top or secondary tier and has to go to castoffs of those not qualified, it's going to be a very very long season. |
|

if they get the players they're expected to, they make the playoffs this year (don't think i've ever predicted that before).
making the playoffs for the first time in a decade will make the fans happy. - dbot
They still have a team that doesn't backcheck . |

Cmon Guddy played 25 minutes a night in the playoffs in a shutdown role who plays tough and physical. He's got size and will be that guy who helps the team not get bullied around as much anymore which we sadly have needed for a few years now
He adds value to the team right now without even having played a minute on the ice because of his reputation on the ice.
McCann might turn out to be a scorer or he might not. He might have started in Utica next season because he has to gain a lot of bulk to play in the NHL. He was easily knocked off the puck and was horrible at face offs because he was a boy playing amongst men.
McCann likely won't get a lot of points in Florida where he'd be playing behind Barkov, Trochek, and Bjugstad. Not sure why Fla decided to trade Guddy but I'm happy he's here now in Van. |

It's because they wanted to go in a different direction, they just gave Ekblad a huge contract and traded Kulikov to Buffalo for the equivalent of Tanev-like defenseman.

I don't think anyone is calling him a bum. Even if he tops out at a 4 D he still makes the Canucks better because the things he does well are things the Canucks don't have at all. And he's still young and can definitely improve. But he's not a top pairing guy and there's a good chance he never will be. And that's fine, that's not a knock on him at all, but I think some fans are setting themselves up for disappointment. |

He doesn't need to be a top pairing guy. We didn't. Give up Taylor Hall he is a solid #4 now and good become a 3 or 2. Either way it's a smart trade. |

Which is fine but I there are a lot of hockey people who are questioning what the new Fla management is doing Considering they just made the playoffs in how many years and now they're taking it apart? Fla who now have a bunch of analytics people on the management team? Let's see if they can keep it up |

You don't have a Taylor Hall to give up. Totally different circumstances, Edmonton is loaded up front and needs D, Canucks not really loaded anywhere but a good start getting a decent D man and maybe starting to build. |

I just hope Canucks never have 4 players taking up 50% of the cap.. leaving no room for depth or any of that other stuff teams need. |

Very true but with success comes a cap nightmare, in fact even without success , many teams are in the same position. In the years to come I see a league with no excellent teams, a few really good teams and the rest mediocre , the salary cap, so far, has not produced parity, the same 5 or 6 teams are always winning or in the mix for the past 9 cups. The GM's still over pay for the decent to good players , mostly based on past performance. The teams that draft really well and are successful are forced to not resign or trade their players because of success. I'm not sure where it's headed but you can bet that there will be another stoppage because of the ridiculous contracts that are handed out to very average players not to mention overpaying for the stars. |

Gubrandson will be to the Canucks what Mitchell was for the Canucks in his prime, top 4 shut down d man. The big difference is gudbrandson is more physical and he can drop the mitts. He will be a fan favourite as Mitchell was. |

We should OS Monahan 7.3mil for 7 years tomorrow. Costs us our first 3 picks next season, but he is a legit 1c and that is easily worth it. - Retinalz

I don't agree with that rationalization.
The deal was done and may have caused Edmonton to overpay. If it was done in reverse order would you feel the same? Or if the oilers deal never happened? - Scooby_Doo

Larsson has way more upside than Gudbranson.
In fact, Gudbranson could be another Girardi type that fizzles away and becomes useless in todays NHL. I hope not, but there is a lot more downside risk to Gudbranson than there is for upside potential. - Scooby_Doo
All u have is ifs ands or maybes in the future.

You would give up 3 first round picks for Monahan? True super star? Wtf?
I'll repeat what I've said 5000 times this season. Nothing is stupider for a rebuilding franchise than an offer sheet. You are essentially giving up critical draft picks for the right to over pay somebody. If you offer a fair contract it will be matched...this isn't rocket science |
