All u have is ifs ands or maybes in the future.
It did not cost us a Hall lol
EG is better now so give us a break with the negativity geez - Nighthawk
I'll agree with you on this one...the negativity to this trade is ridiculous. We have the softest team in pro sports and we address that issue and add a solid dman and still, the entitled idiots female dog |

Very true but with success comes a cap nightmare, in fact even without success , many teams are in the same position. In the years to come I see a league with no excellent teams, a few really good teams and the rest mediocre , the salary cap, so far, has not produced parity, the same 5 or 6 teams are always winning or in the mix for the past 9 cups. The GM's still over pay for the decent to good players , mostly based on past performance. The teams that draft really well and are successful are forced to not resign or trade their players because of success. I'm not sure where it's headed but you can bet that there will be another stoppage because of the ridiculous contracts that are handed out to very average players not to mention overpaying for the stars. - HawkfaninBC
I'll take a cup in exchange for a nightmare but that requires superstars we do not currently have. We don't do the Vanek Clarkson Subban type contracts. |

2017
8 F 4 D 0 G signed
3 F rfa's Bo Gaunce Etem
3 D rfa's EG Hutton Tryamkin
approx. 33m cap space
subtract the 2 ufa's this year say that's 10m eg Eriksson 6.5m & 3m or so
leaves 22m to sign Bo Gaunce EG Hutton Tree & Etem bounced by competition if he flops next season is up to him. Marky gets a new ufa contract & a back up G is needed.
Say Bo signs a 2yr bridge contract @3m
Gaunce a min raise
Etem prolly gone
EG @5-5.5m
Hutton 2yr bridge @3m
Tree 2yr bridge @2.5m
Marky 3yrs @3.5m
back up G @1m
about 3-4m cap space for a UFA or maybe Boesser & a UFA
That leaves a lot of flexibility. |

I was ok with the deal when it happened, and understood the need.
It feels better knowing that Edmonton overpaid, but they're rich (in talent) and can afford to overpay, so...
when they sign Lucic and Demers it will help Oiler fans get over it.
Hall for Lucic, Demers and Larson is easier to swallow. - dbot
They could have signed Lucic & Demers without trading Hall. With him they still had 12+M in cap space. Heck trading Yak for a bag of pucks would save them 2.5M. Hall for Larsson is a terrible deal any way you spin it.

It's only a bad deal if it's not part of a larger strategy where the Oilers go after and get Barrie from Colorado for RNH and whatever other marginal pieces are required. Get Barrie and everyone forgets about Hall for Larsson. Lucic and Demers are stopgaps at best and if that's all the Oil do this off-season then yes, that trade looks even worse. |

Exactly this. There aren't any/many fantastic players available, so the mediocre ones are really going to cash in. I'm all for the idea of trying to poach some players that went unqualified on the cheap. JB doesn't have to use all the cap space, can save it to take on some short/bad contracts at the deadline if it means getting back a good player/higher picks. |

I would have to say this is the case. When EDM got lucky with the 4th overall in Pool-Jarvi he is basically an NHL ready player which makes someone expendable…it turned out to be Hall. Larsson is going to help them immensely. |

You don't have a Taylor Hall to give up. Totally different circumstances, Edmonton is loaded up front and needs D, Canucks not really loaded anywhere but a good start getting a decent D man and maybe starting to build. - HawkfaninBC
What? We have Hank-Bo-Sutter and Granlund down the middle? Are we not cup bound?
