Every team should have that goal. Thats the difference between winning and losing. I know on paper we may not have the best team but winning should always be your goal. Losing sucks.
- thundachunk

agreed. I would rather a team try to win and lose, than try to lose and lose.

I always had issues with Hall.
1st i'd have picked Seguin a C over him.
2nd his defence bites.
3rd his reckless style makes me believe injuries will add up.
4th idk no why PC was so desparate to get Larsson.
5th a different package to Nashville coulda maybe been done.

- Nighthawk

I agree with your point number 3. Hall is fairly fearless in going to the net and/or cutting across the middle with reckless abandon. I think that type of play will probably end up shortening his career due to the inevitable injuries. That said, there is no denying he is a top talent and the Devils ended up with possibly the biggest steal of the last decade. If I was an Edmonton (and to a lesser extent, Habs) fan I would be extremely angry. I sure hope that Benning doesn't lose his marbles in terms of signing anyone tomorrow or down the road.

Free agents, Waivers and not coming back.

Like it or not...

Signed Ryan Miller to a 3-year $18 million contract. I know I am not on the same level as most of you but this is one of Bennings I liked. Not the term the goalie. JB wasn't afraid to go out make a statement and get the best goalie off the market. This goes to show how important goaltending is in this league. Without Miller we would have done a lot worse. This is a LikeIt for me.

Signed Radim Vrbata to a 2-year, $10 million deal. I wasn't really a Vrbata fan and when the signing happened I was like Meh but he went on to do very well through one season and was looking promising. Year 2 was a disaster but the fault does not lie with Benny. Good signing and shows we can still attract big name free agents much like Miller. This is a LikeIt for me as well. Although I don't want to revisit it again.

Claimed Brandon McMillan off waivers from Arizona Coyotes. Nothing move.

Released Tom Sestito. Who?

Signed Yannick Weber who is also not being signed again. Gross every game I went to I made known my dislike of Weber. This is a NotLike for me but JB did get him for relatively decent contract. I just am not a Weber fan.

Signed Matt Bartkowski to a 1-year, $1,750,000 contract. See above. Also what else did we have in waiting. Hard to fault a guy for trying to fill a need. His Mom was pretty cool. NotLike

Signed Adam Cracknell to a 1-year, $575,000 contract. Cracknell had signed on a tryout basis. I liked this one a depth 4th line Veteran who made the most of his time. He was great with the young guys coming in. This is a LikeIt for me

Waived Linden Vey and not re signing him It was worth a try Vey had more than enough chances to succeed from the coach and management, I can't fault Jim for letting him walk for nothing but I will. LikeIt

Alex Biega was a good signing depth move and Beiga earned it. LikeIt

The Maple Leafs signed Corrado. I had high hopes a few seasons ago for Corrado but sometimes this happens. This was a mistake on JB's part but the leafs looked like even more of an a$$hole because of their choice to let him ride pine.

Placed Chris Higgins on waivers and bought out. I like Higgins but he lost a step and business is business. At least being bought out it gives him a chance to try out the market.

Signed free agent Michael Zalewski to a 1-year, $575,000 contract. Good Kid. Like this one.

Waived Brandon Prust. I don't think he got a fair shake after his injury. This one bothers me because I think he fit well at times but never really panned out.

Hamhuis. He was my favourite defence man at times. He was injured a lot last season and had a real tough go. As he said the game is fluid. Not hard feelings if nothing works out. Jim handled this well and he didn't. Neither party was happy at the deadline but it is what it is.

Etem the most recent RFA. I think he is Lazy and inconsistent but JB got a hell of a deal for him to show his stuff. LikeIt for the Cap hit

Demko, Stecher, Rodin, Brisboise. All thumbs up for me. LikeIt

I hope he gets Pedan signed up.

Not returning Vey, Weber, Bartowski, Prust, Cracknell, Higgins, Hamhuis and possibly Burrows. All and all Jim did his best with what he had to work with could he have done better maybe.

This team is going to have some freshness and I like it.

- thundachunk

Thund - this is an impressive list and when you've fallen as much as the Canucks have fallen since 2011 there was going to be an in between period where there no good prospects in the system and that's where the non-returning list mostly comes in, either past their prime, Higgins, or experiments which didn't work out.

Aquilini I suspect would never allow a tank and rebuild like the Leafs so I give Benning the benefit of the doubt for some of this, just like throwing stuff against a wall and seeing what sticks ie. Sven.

As a team "rebuilding" there should be tons of room for a player like him. It also fits Benning's MO - A under achieving first rounder that still could have potential IE Baertschi and Etem.

Connoly is a plug & many others out there to get.

Sabres trying to trade Kane. His off ice issues are a big red flag, but for the right price I would try and see if we can get that under control as his on ice play can be very good for us. Due to his respect for both Linden and Willie, do you guys think they could set him straight?

I see your points but as reckless as he is, he gets it done. Can't pick a guy apart for the dynamic edge that makes him successful.

I do find it ironic that minutes after the Hall trade, 2 #1 Defencemen get dealt, both of which would be right at the top of Edmontond wish list.

Yup definitely.. To overpay Krug
- MaWLz

Krug is 25 ... And a .5p/g d man ...it's only 4 years ...and he will be 29 when it expires ...it's not the best deal but it's fair ...would you rather 4 mill over say 6 years ?

I agree, in this market for a defenseman who can put up 40 points thats a solid deal especially the term.

Half the players on this team are projects or experiments, what's wrong with one more?
- A_SteamingLombardi

Disagree when u lump in draft picks.
Enough competition for those we have.
We need impact scoring not 3/4 inconsistent players.
Depth over projects eg Eriksson Martin Brouwer IMO
Maybe a Boedeker at the right price idk about his incincsistency though
