They just got Larssen for Hall. I think Sbisa for RNH is looking pretty dam good right now.

I think Jamie McGinn and Brandon Pirri are underrated budget upgrades that can be signed for reasonable money & term (throw in Vanek and I'd be elated). Too many people are focused (like crows) on shiny objects like Lucic and Eriksson. The Canucks are not in a place to challenge and Aquilini is foolish to think a shiny toy is going to fool fans for more than 5 minutes.

If Benning can make a few astute signings to improve depth in the event of injuries, the Canucks have a better chance of making the playoffs. We don't have the farm system to call up effective bandaids. I would have liked to re-sign Hamhuis for that very reason.

The best news is that Travis Green was not lured away. If Willie falters, the Canucks have a coach in waiting who is intimately aware of the farm teams strengths.

If the Canucks sign value guys instead of swinging for the fences, they are in a much better position at the trade deadline to look for help in the unlikely event they are in a playoff spot. All this without handcuffing themselves.

You have to ask yourself as a fan whether it's about filling the owners pockets with a poor signing and a marquis name or engraving a name on a cup.

I don't admire Benning's position. It is difficult to look the Sedin's in the eye and tell them you're not making a push but the reality is the Canucks don't have the horses. That could change if 3 or 4 youngsters emerge next season but that is extremely unlikely. If Tryamkin magically emerges as Chara, Virtanen becomes an unstoppable force and Baertschi, Hutton and Etem jump 3 levels maybe but what are the chances?

I like the team, I think there are some great pieces. I won't be happy if the ownership forces a stupid move to overpay for a piece that makes no sense. If all Aquilini cares about is asses in seats, we have a problem with ownership not management.

Aces would be my choice but I didn't pay $500m for the team.

I think he is a #2 center, and just had a bad team with him until McDavid showed up. When McDavid went down they replaced him with draisatl on the line and he played very well, then McDavid came back and RNH fell.

2 years ago I was at the Youngstars tourney and Draisaitl was the only player I thought was NHL ready. He is IMHO a more offensively gifted Kopitar and has much more propensity to play physical.
