I'm not hating hanging on to Fleury now.
Anyone I wanted to sign that would improve the team costs more than we could pay. The guys that would have added top 6 Okpose/Ladd/Lucic are all at price points and term that would cause long-term problems. Basically we can have excess depth at one position - goaltending. If we traded Fleury to make a UFA deal we would be in worse cap shape short and long-term.
Only thing is Schultz might have been possible.
I actually think Pouliot is going to be fine so not that big of deal. And no team starts the year with 7 legitimate NHL defenders.
Good depth signing for WBS is what we needed for defense. |

So nothing on Justin Shultz at all huh? Kris Russel too although I would take Shultz any day over Russel. Maybe the old man can swing a trade for Kuni and then sign both. He sure gave a lot of dmen 2 way contracts today. - Dcoms
Demers still out there too I think. Defenseman market must be held up. Schultz will be a good sign for a team that misses on a top target. |

I mean Montreal didn't like pk attitude right? They trade him for weber who hates radulov then give radulov 5.75? Who's worse Edmonton or Montreal? - dbell646
Find this funny ... trade PK and his stuff and sign a punk in Radulov who bring other issues? Neither edmonton nor Montreal have done anything positive. |

Boedker, Demers still out there...two guys I'd love to sign in the hypothetical world where we have cap space. Colborne (aka one of the potential Fleury trade guys) is out there...but not that interested.
Keeping my eye on Hudler still. I think hed be a tremendous signing on a cheap deal. |

Not trading Poulliot as per Rutherford as per the DK site, will be given every opportunity to shine. - Dcoms

Some of UFAs left out there: Boedker, Demers, Russell, Hudler, Vanek, Vrbata, Luke Schenn, Parenteau, Colborne, Schultz, Stempniak.
I see Old GMJR getting colborne |

Only thing of interest to the Pens - Hamhuis
Supposedly he had some interest this year after we won the cup and was willing to sign undermarket. Not sure if I'd prefer him over our current top 6. Even undermarket I think he might be hitting a scuderi decline. |

I think DAL did a good thing in signing him for under $4mil/year. Especially with Goligoski gone and Demers hitting the FA market. |

If he can be had cheap, i could see the Pens signing Wisniewski. Would fit a need. |

Agree they need someone. Though Scuderi decline is possible.
Term is good on that deal too. I wouldn't want a 4 year deal at that price. But at 2 and under 4 its a good risks/reward.
If he declines at all then Hamhuis wouldn't even be better than our 3rd pairing guys. |

Lovejoy went for what 2.2? And his perceived value is higher than Shultz's even though Lovejoy is nowhere near as talented. Maybe Shultz can be had for a one year deal for 1.1? In this case we could pull it off. |

What do you think the going rate is for Hudler? Any chance he could be had for ~$2M? Would be a good depth signing that can play either wing & float up & down the lineup. Do that & call it a day GMJR. |

I hate calling things like that good signings. When a player wants to play for you and takes a below market deal its just luck not skill.
Good signings are guys like cullen last year. When you pay market price, but made a better decision than other teams. |
