Thankfully Boedker signed with the Sharks, now we can stop listening to pleas to sign him.

The only "Bo" I used to care about was Beau Bennett. And now he is gone. Who is this Bo Edker guy and why should I care?

Well sir hockey is a very fast game where poop happens very fast. I would guess that Kuni was thinking the goalie was waiting on the pass and going to get over and just made up his mind that he was giving it back to Geno. A play that works prob 80 percent of the time but it just so happened it didn't that time.
- Grinder47

That is fine. A little bit of under-production. If he had 6 goals instead of 4 then he's fairly paid, but small sample size. He's also paid less than 4. Lucic is a $6 million a year player he scored 20 goals this year. Kunitz had 17. Andrew Ladd 25 goals. 5.5/year (With term that actually means paying more for today's production). Kunitz 17 at 3.75. Ladd 46 points. 5.5. Kunitz 40 pts. 3.75. Boedker. 17 goals. $4/year. Kunitz 17 goals. $3.75/year. And I believe Kunitz has better possession numbers. Kyle Okpose. 22 goals. $6/year.

Free agent signings still justify Kunitz at around a $4/year player. He's not a discount player, but he's not underperforming his contract. Especially since we basically underpaid for his early years and expected to be a little overpaid on the back-end. To be getting production that is inline with his salary is decent value.

If he was overpaid then we wouldn't be able to trade him for a draft pick If anything these signings point to Kunitz being underpaid. I know something feels wrong with the eye test, but he's still producing around his UFA value.

Boedker to Sharks on a fair deal. The Sharks will be back
- Victoro311

I haven't seen any huge overpayments this year. Some contracts that do scare me, but thats the costs of doing business when you try to fix your team through free agency instead of the draft. Draft well and you turn into Tampa Bay trying to pay your rfa guys at rfa prices.

This is true, but we all can't be Tampa Bay.

hahahaha, do you know how many times in hockey anywhere someone gets a pass like that and gives it right back and it ends up in the net? I know I've done it, and have seen it done many times from peewee to the nhl. Its actually a pretty routine play to make on a 2 on 1. Your just a clown. The fact that you have nothing else but one play to support your argument leads me to think you just think its cool to bash on Kunitz so you go looking for reasons too.
- Grinder47

Yep, nothing to shoot at, at all here, passing the much better option. Like I said, it was a layup and he blew it. They teach you to shoot that every time, even at the basic level of hockey.

Anyone know where we are on the cap?

General Fanager has us at 1.47 over the cap with a full roster plus dupuis. Dupuis is 3.75...so that should put us 2.28 under the cap. That is counting warsofsky at 575.

So doesn't that mean we can sign someone up to 2.85? Moving Warsofsky back to minors. Need a little spare cap space so isn't bring Schultz back at $2 feasible?

Some very very random draft thoughts:

(1) Cullen. Both sides appear to want to wait a few days to let things settle out. He will go for a one year contract at about $1 million. I'd be surprised if he wants more. Pens simply need to figure out the cap space.

(2) Schultz. Assuming there isn't a crazy GM out there, maybe he goes for a $2-2.5 million 1 year "prove it" deal with the Pens, where Jaques Martin has a year to try to sort him out. Benefits both parties. Otherwise, Pens appear to have stocked up on low risk two way D for the 6th-10th guys instead of a vet. Around the beginning of training camp there may be some cap dumps to pick someone up.

(3) MM and MAF. Now for the really crazy tinfoil idea. So JR says "there are many ways to manage the expansion draft next year." They also go out and get another G in the second round. Why? Let's assume MAF and MM are together on the Pens in March 2017 around the trade deadline. MAF does not want to waive his "no trade" to be exposed (which I doubt, but stay with me). Why not give Murray an extension with a NMC? That way, MAF and MM are auto-protected. There appears to be nothing in the rules which state that if both of your G are auto-protected, you have to expose one? So you have to now expose Hornquvist. I know its a tinfoil idea, but why couldn't they, if they like MM so much? They also offer Jarry or the new G to Vegas in a trade as well to keep them from even pushing it.

On (3)

I don't think guys on rfa status can sign NMC. You would open yourself up to some kind of discipline from the league if you are able to sign another guy to a NMC. We would be autoprotecting 2 goalies when you are only allowed to autoprotect 1. And the final problem is it would destroy our cap. We can't pay Murray 4-5 million and fleury 5.75 the following year. And then you would have BOTH goalies with NTC clauses.

Just a random thought, anyway. Who says you can't autoprotect 2 goalies? It just says if you have a NMC you have to be autoprotected. The rfa thing is the only one I can think of blocking this in principal if it is true. It may mess up the cap, but couldn't they say they are if they are both auto-protected, we will unprotect MAF? In terms of the cap, they get rid of one (like MAF) on their terms, not the leagues.

Oh, because your BEGGING for every fighter was exclusive to Kunitz? Are you so arrogant you think we don't recall your other player suggestions, all grit tough guys?

Nice fake comeback though.

Like Downie? Hes better at hockey than all the call ups, Fehr and Cullen. He just happens to be tough and fight too.

A little off topic, but was anyone else surprised by how little attention was paid to Joe Pavelski's miss on the wide open net in the 3rd period of game 6? He puts that in and the game was tied up. Murray was at the top of the crease to challenge the point shot, Pavelski had the whole goal to shoot at.

It's because Kunitz didn't shoot and passed up a sure goal.

Is that how hockey works? They teach you when to shoot and pass at the basic levels and that prepares you for every sequence of plays that might lead to a split second scoring chance 30 years later at a speed so fast that tards like you cant even begin to comprehend whats going on, but after the replay you can become an expert. So glad your here to explain how this whole hockey thing works for me. Basic levels and all that.

If you don't think Kunitz should have shot that puck, just stop watching. You have no clue what is going on. Go jerk it to your laminated Craig Adams rookie card.

Dude you people literally comprehend nothing. I said he's tough and fights. I didn't say hes Nate Diaz on ice. Try reading then thinking before responding. Not to mention hes always fighting people that are taller and heavier than him.
