Are there any high profile KHL or other non-NHL players (a la Panarin) available?
- YouMeAndDupuis9

For every Panarin there's an Anton Belov.

Yannick Weber went to preds for 1yr 575k, would've been a good depth signing for pens. Right shot and can easily play the bottom pairing for all or any part of the season. Oh well

Eh. We addressed our defensive depth issues. I think there's plenty of options for 7th D and injury call ups now with the guys we signed today. Not gonna worry about marginal improvements.

I give it to Halloween before the marriage of Rad and Therrien files for a divorce.

And if it fails it fails and Montreal is right where it was: a highly flawed roster that is heavily reliant on ridiculous goaltending to keep it afloat that should probably torn down

But when you're Montreal and you struggle to score goals and you're probably not going to make the playoffs unless you figure out how to score goals, why wouldn't you take a risk on one of the KHL's most prolific scorer of all time? I don't think this is a good marriage by the parties involved, but I also don't think the cost/benefit analysis on Montreal's part was out of whack.
- Victoro311

When you are Montreal and have trouble scoring goals, you trade Subban for Hall, not another Dman.

Well if you want to get to the heart of it, you fire your coach who refuses to put your team in the best position to succeed by playing one of your few top 6 guys like Glachenyuk in the wrong role and not letting Subban be Subban. Then you probably fire your GM who won't stop signing bottom six players to top 6 contracts and expecting them to produce like Plekanic, DD, and Shaw and also refuses to fire the afore mentioned coach so much that he'd rather trade Subban. But hey, if they want to stick with those two baboons, then Radulov is probably their best hope at righting the ship.

For sure Kunitz should have shot. But I'm curious, if it was Malkin that made that extra pass and Kunitz didn't bury it would people be talking about Malkins extra pass or that Kunitz has lost his hands ?
- willi

I dont care who it is in that position, i would say the same thing...shoot the f'ing puck...its game 6 of the stanley cup finals, you are trying to put a team away, and you pass on a gimmie...if it was Crosby, I would say the same thing...he should have shot the puck

How exactly do you cut him? This isn't the NFL. Pens would have done that to Scuds if you can just cut players.
- sammy87

You can cut any player at any time. It's just you still have to pay him and he's still on your cap.

So yes we could have cut or more likely assigned scuderi to wbs. But his salary and cap charges stay. Plus scuds had a multi year contract

Raduluv is a 1 year deal and Canadians had no where else to spend money.

I won't defend anything else they've done.

You basically have three kind of assets in a cap world. Cash, term, and tradable assets (picks, prospects, non-core roster players). Term is an asset given out that usually causes longer term cap problems as players decline with age. In Canadians case they had an asset they weren't using cap space. Didn't sacrifice any of the other two assets. Same reason Kunitz has some value as he's on a one year deal now. People complain about Kunitz cap hit but even if we traded him for a pick any way we would redeploy his cap hit would involve either trading for someone else and costing tradable assets or signing a Ufa who would want term. Boedker the only guy that would have been interesting

No poop...he should have shot the puck...get over it! We won the cup.

I can't imagine this place if we would have lost the game based on that missed Kunitz opportunity.

I'd say most of his fights are a draw, unless he actually is fighting in his weight class then he mostly wins. Not to mention he is good at hockey. But I know calling people like Downie dumb makes you feel better about your own life so keep doing it.
- Grinder47

What makes me feel better is the team wisely walked away from his dumb ass after a one year experiment. He's a dirty penalty magnet whose NHL career is probably over......which also makes me feel good.

I remember when he tried to bend Sid in half nearly causing a significant knee injury. I also remember when he went after Boychuk's knee which resulted in Boychuk immediately going after Malkin's knee. He's a real tough guy.

If you want to know who called him dumb.... Sid called him dumb. I'm just agreeing with him.

I'm not convinced that Price's injury woes are behind him. I have a feeling he is going to go down again this year (either in a minor or major way, but if it's the knee again, it will probably be major). Since they are loading up for a Cup run, I think they come calling for Fleury. Fleury gets to go home and is reunited with Therrien. Interestingly, in that infamous rant by Therrien all those years ago, the ONLY positive he mentioned in that long tirade was the play of Fleury. I also think TBL figures out a way to send Bishop to DAL.

I hope so - I would be really happy with that. I think that is a perfect free agency for the Pens if they can sign Cullen 1 year/$1M, Schultz 2 years/$2M, and Hudler 2 years/$2.5M. I can see the Pens holding on to Fleury until TDL, but if they get a good offer before then they should take it (not to mention it will take some cap maneuvering to sign Schultz and Hudler (and a backup goalie)).

Yeah, the cap aint gonna allow that to happen. Really excited about Scott Wilson this year. Cullen and Hudler are luxuries but they still bring a lot at (potentially) low cost.

I wish Kuhnhackl was waiver exempt...he'd be my first choice to send back to WBS. Not a bad 4th liner...but probably, what, the 14th best forward?

Yeah, fair or not, I feel less excited about the prospects of Kuhnhackle than the other WBS players. He is a big body, physical, blocks shots, and has some offensive skill. But time will tell what shakes out between Kuhn, Wilson, Sheary, Rust, and Sund. And who knows, maybe there will be some more players pushing for playing time from WBS.

I think Cullen would be more important than Hudler because of his position. Fehr is injury-prone (as is Malkin) and beyond him there is only Sund who may or may not be ready for prime time. Center and D are the priorities, so I wouldn't call Cullen a luxury. He seems like a really important player for all of the little things he does (along with vet/Cup experience and faceoff prowess). I don't agree with others wanting to dump Fehr unless there is a good replacement center who is just as cheap. I would much rather ship out Kunitz for whatever draft pick(s) (also frees up almost double the cap space, too).

Therrien also called Fleury the worst number one pick in the history of the NHL. I can't see Fleury going to Montreal as long as Therrien is there. Really I can't see any player choosing to go play for Therrien. His method of coaching has been outdated for years.

Hes just cut from a different clothe. He plays to win at all costs, its what true hockey is about. I'm glad we won the cup and all but this team could use an upgrade on the determination and dedication to the team.

You mean since like the 13-14 season when they went to the conference finals? It's been out dated for 3 years.
