2014-15: Percy made the Maple Leafs out of training camp, averaging over 20 minutes of ice time in his first five games before eventually being returned to the Marlies in November. He played in one other NHL game in January, finishing -4 with 3 assists and 2 penalty minutes while averaging 18 minutes of ice time in nine NHL games. Percy battled to stay healthy, playing in 43 regular season games for the Marlies. He scored 1 goal with 10 assists and was +1 with 14 penalty minutes. Toronto finished second in the North Division, falling to Grand Rapids in a first-round playoff series. Percy was -1 with 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes in four playoff games.

2015-16: Percy played three February games with the Maple Leafs, spending most of his third pro season with the AHL’s Marlies. He was -2 with no points nor penalties, averaging 13 minutes of ice time with the Leafs. Percy scored 4 goals with 20 assists and was +3 with 47 penalty minutes in 58 regular season games for the Marlies. Toronto finished first in the North Division, advancing to the Eastern Conference finals against Hershey. Percy had 2 assists and was -7 with 4 penalty minutes in 14 playoff games.

Talent Analysis

Percy possesses all-round capability, and is very calm under pressure situations. He moves the puck efficiently out of the defensive zone and is starting to become a threat offensively – although he is unlikely to develop into a premiere offensive defender. He is still developing his power and skating skills.

Future

Percy appeared in three NHL games with Toronto in 2015-16, spending most of the year in the AHL. A first-round pick by the Maple Leafs by the previous regime in 2011, he has been slowed by injuries and not yet reached the level envisioned when he was a scoring threat and a physical defender in junior hockey. Percy would be an unrestricted free agent if not tendered a contract offer by the Maple Leafs. He no longer projects as a top pairing defender but could have some value in a lesser role for a team in need of defense help.

Hoping GMJR can find another bargain like Cullen or Comeau to fill out the roster.

My preference up front is to add a RW and shift Fehr to C. LW mayblack proven options, but lots of intriguing young players who could factor in there: Wilson, Guentzel, Simon. Hopefully build up the blueline too and find a 3rd pair righty.

Mixed on Cullen. Was a great fit but at 40 and playing over 100 games last year it would likely be better to give that last roster spot to younger, fresher legs.

Thats how I feel on Cullen. Love what he did and his play, but Rust, Wilson, Kuhn, Dumo, all finally got to prove themselves and that was the difference maker.
