No way we keep 72. Look at these stupid contracts today. Panarin will come back in the 7's easy.

If he does what he did last year again, he may be 8 per year.

And if he gets offer sheeted then the Hawks could potentially get FOUR first round picks.
- kwolf68

Unlikely..
Above $5.5m AAV: 1st and 3rd
$5.5-7.3m AAV: 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
$7.3-9.1: 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Above $9.1m, 4 1sts.
You think Panarin is above $9.1m talent?

No one wants Anisimov at 4.55. He's another contract that's not movable. He's a solid guy, but centers that can't win faceoffs who score 40 points centering for the Harlem Globetrotters just are not in demand. And before I hear about him "creating space", teams probably think they can get space creators for a lot less. Anisimov is really a L3-C, but the Hawks have always upslotted Kane's center...shoot he carried around Handzus for two years.
- kwolf68

I've banged this drum for about 6 months.

If AA improves his faceoffs, his relationship with #72 might be useful moving forward. Unlikely, just trying to spin doctor.

We dont have the place for his contract do we?

Landeskog is 23, 5 full years in the NHL, is signed for 5.7 per for FIVE more years. No way they get the Cossack to sign for less than 6 IMO, probably wants more.

So assuming the top 6 is Panarin-AA-Kane, Panik-Toews-Hossa.....What does the bottom 6 look like?

I just think that the hawk's problem with signing Panarin is:
1. They don't have the cap space, and
2. There is an offer sheet threat

The problem is 95% 1, and 5% 2.
If they had the money, the offer sheet wouldnt be a threat.
If they dont have the money, who gives a crap whether he gets offer sheeted, since they dont have the money.

- Cmonalready

agreed and #1 is the issue.

Problem is Bowman will need to have Panarin essentially done AND then dump a guy to have them cap compliant.

Then you start looking at trade options as we go along. Who can give you the best return. If you cant extend him then you cant extend him. Find a team that will give you some blue chip prospects/current players and re-stock the pond. What else can you do?

I think the more likely case would be him getting offered 7mil AAV and that would be a 1, 2, and 3 round pick. Needs to be over 9 mil AAV to get 4 1's. Will he get offered more than Stamkos makes? I doubt it.

I have a sense in reading interviews, Panarin wants to get paid. He'll take the most money he can get. Saad did this, albeit it was more agent driven from what we hear, but it lead to him being moved.

I don't know why the same fate COULD not befall Panarin?

And it looks like to me given the Hawks have NOT moved any salary they may be content to letting him getting an offer sheet should that happen.

Nope option 2 (75% sure) option 3 if Buffalo were to offer sheet them.

I'll say this...if we can stare at Hawks cap problem, imagine guys who do this for a living and may pitch it high enough to force bowman to make TWO trades to clear the room.

Again, assuming Panarin duplicates his 2015-16 season at worst.

@HawksBreakdown
So I just turned on Sirius XM radio and it sounded like Matt Barnaby was saying watch out for Chicago when it comes to Jimmy Vessy.

I was saying it a month ago. There is a reason Stan isn't making moves for a F.

Or if he gets 7.3 then its Two first-round picks and a second- and third-round pick.

Honestly, I kinda liked the deal Bowman got for Saad, but the main reason I liked it was Dano (of course dumped for a rental). With just a bunch of picks you may not get a guy who can ever even make the NHL unless that pick is top 5.

It works. Both teams get a good player. Skog is making 5.9? No 5.5 for several more years.

Sounds like Panarin is in the 7x7 range. He won't be a blackhawk after next year unless some salary is moved. At a certain point would you rather have 1 great guy or 3 really good ones? I think that depends on how many great guys you have already.

And waiting until next year when "your hands are tied" means a rough go at the bargaining table. After next year I could see an even MORE top heavy team. Eight really great players and 12 guys. Mashinter probably has pretty good job security.

- kwolf68

If that's the offer sheet - that's 7x7=49/5=9.8 for comp purposes - meaning either 2 first, 1 second, 1 third OR 4 firsts, depending on the increase in the comp schedule ranges.

Don't think he would get an offer sheet for that.

100% Agreed. In fact, if Stan doesn't do it right now, he'll be standing in the corner holding his chicken like he did last year with Sharpie.

Panarin and his 80 point rookie season for Landeskog wouldn't be strange. Straight up hockey trade.
- Mr Ricochet

For Landeskog's 53 pt season? GL's good and love to have him but not for the Bread Man.... Send them Krugs, 50 draft picks and a Bickell game jersey...

Correct on all counts. If you know the Cossacks number is too high move him once that is known if you fear an offer sheet. Just like Saad.........
