With the d men added, what do you think the comboswill be? Who will be sitting on the bench... I have
Ej-bigras
Barrie- tyutin
Beauch-zads
Wiercioch-gelly
Siemens in ahl
I think as season goes tyutin could move down to third pairing or bench with Wiercioch coming in, with him taking his spot next year... thoughts? I do like the corbourne signing. Seems like a guy who can play second, third or fourth line with ease. I'm liking our depth. I feel like we are a better team/organization today than we were at the end of the season. - Skywalker87
I actually see Bigras starting the year in SA. The team seems to be concentrating on development and he could still gain something in the A. I could see Siemens being being the 8th defenseman. I don't see him gaining much from the minors and could actually benefit more from practicing with NHLers.
EJ - Zads
Barrie - Beauch
Tyutin - Wiercioch/Gelly
Siemens - Wiercioch/Gelly
That's just the beginning of the year. Bigras will finish the year with the big club.

A couple D signings. Does that mean Barrie is for sure leaving? - dothedougie
Both Dmen were depth signings to help force competition for the younger guys and overall added depth incase of injury. Neither are good enough to make up for losing Barrie.
Chances are if Barrie goes to Arb then the Avs will give him a timeline to sign a long term deal or trade him if they can get a return they like. |

Aj Greer signed to ELC! now with him being a college draftee... does that mean we can put him to San Antonio this year over the junior league? Which should mean we can differ a year of his ELC so we only start paying him next year?? - Skywalker87
He can play for any of the Q, AHL or NHL. Avs said he will play for AHL or NHL next year. AHL being by far the most likely |

Anyone who thinks that we should trade our 23 year old captain, who plays with a fairly friendly 5.5mil cap hit for the next five years, needs to enlighten me as to why. He is the real deal, puts up points, hits, stands up for his team. Landeskog is the young talent teams crave these days, true power forward in the making. It would be a shame to see him go before he even enters his prime years.
While I'm on my rant.. Let's not trade any of our young talent. This is a team that people should get excited about.
I'm a Devils fan... no one on our forums thought we were going to trade Larsson; we were talking about Severson.
I don't know why the Avs would trade Landeskog... he had a fantastic rookie season and hasn't since been the player they thought he would be, but he's still a pretty good player and still loves Colorado as far as I know.
You give to get, yet, Winnipeg is shifting to a speedier game while it seems Colorado is actually more interested in a grindier game (more intense). If a deal is to be made, I could see Colorado moving speed for size... which means Landeskog would be going nowhere.
Duchene, however, could be going one way with ?Trouba? coming back the other. Rig a Duchene deal to make it work. But when Ek says Colorado Winnipeg, it actually makes a lot of sense that these two would make a trade. |

I don't hate that idea but I don't like it either. I feel like bigras fate will come down to a couple things. A) can he beat out a wiecioch/gelly/tyutin. B) expansion draft. If he plays this year does he become a player we have to protect... if so that means we are going to be protecting 4 d guys (beau, ej( both have nmc) barrie and bigras, plus zads is an rfa so I don't know how that works into the expansion draft either. I would love to have him up in the big club, but if that means exposing him to the expansion draft keep him up for the maximum time then send him down. Big minutes in all situations in San Antonio is better than minimal mins in the big club then next year bring him up for full time top 4 minutes. |

I get where you are coming from, Jets and Avs each have eachothers needs. I like where Winnipeg is with their prospects as well, and I dont think they should shake things up too much either. Most hockey "fans" are impatient, and want success to come within a year or two of drafting high. This is where the media comes in and scutinizes each club after missing the playoffs, and makes people think that changes need to happen now. All I'm saying is give it a few years, let your prospects turn 26-28 years old before you give up on them. Jets should pay Trouba, because Dmen are not easy to come by. Avs should keep Duchene, Sakic should put the rumours to bed because like Landeskog, Duchene is the young talent we need to keep getting better.
Moral of the story, draft better, pay your players what they deserve. If you can't afford them, then you must have a pretty good team or pretty poor salary management.

Duchene isn't going anywhere.. we'd never score any goals.
Landeskog can go.. he isn't as good as Duchene and honestly.. takes a ton of terrible penalties and gets suspended when we needed him most.. he isn't a leader.. that's Dutchy.
Winnipeg can suck it, they aren't getting Duchene.

Edmonton seems to lose this twice. Would hate losing Duchene to Winnipeg but love the additions. Would you do Landeskog instead of Duchene. |

Wheeler, Ehlers, and Trouba > Duchene, Grigorenko, and Barrie. Barrie and Trouba are a draw, probably an edge to Barrie based on offence. The rest isn't close. Bad trade for the Jets. |

If the Jets and Avs make a deal, it'll be some variation of Trouba for Barrie. The Jets don't need forwards, and Duchene would likely end up the right winger on the second line. |

Duchesne would instantly be your best center. Shiefle is good but Duchesne is a little better. Would make the Jets lethal though. |

He was outdone by Scheifele last year, who is still improving. The Jets top line is set in stone. I like Duchene, but Little has him beat defensively, and Scheifele may have just passed him offensively. Again, before I continue, Duchene fan here. He's fast, has great hands, and has that unpredictable style that makes him infuriating when he's playing against you. But he's also overhyped now as he's a hot commodity (for good reason).. I'm not convinced he's a top player. He's hit 70 points once, and only once, and hasn't hit 60 since. Does he see PK time? If he does, and he's effective,, I'll give him the edge (as of this moment) on both Little and Scheif no questions asked. I like the guy, but I wouldn't go one for one Scheifele/Duchene in a million years. That being said, what does it take for Trouba/Barrie to work hypothetically? |

I agree. Both are great players but Duchene is better, he's also older and has more experience. Minus the injury and poor start he was a point a game player and has been in the top 15 of the NHL for 5vr5 point getters in the last 3 seasons. That's also 4 years more of NHL time. Also I do not see wpg moving anyone really. Theyre building a team the right way. Great drafting, good core with some younger sokid older players and theyre slowing moving ypung guys in and older players out. shiefle... he had a break out second half to last year. But was only okay till then. He need to have a full season of putting up points. But he took the number one center job there, and by all counts could be the next capitan there. But like dutchy for the avs, he is beloved by the people in wpg. Heart and soul of that team who wants to be there and stay there.
If wpg was to make a deal with avs, barrie and truba could work but I think barrie is better now and truba will grow into a role. So barrie for truba plus x. If Landy is thrown in ( I'm not convinced that is a smart thing cause I think he can turn into a wheeler type player. 65 to 75 power forward in a year or two) I would want comire and wheeler. Comire for goalie depth and wheeler for Landy replacement. Also on a good deal and it expires when I think we will have our prospects coming in, just like I think will happen in wpg.
I don't think anything major will happen. I think the avs are giving the core one more year to prove they can grow. If they can improve, they stick together if not I could see a piece moving. I really would like to see what mack and barrie are getting though. Barrie I'm hoping for 5 at 5.5 and mack either bridge 2 for 4.5 then lock him up 7 at 7. But that's just me. I think the core will be better just hope the depth build around them will be also as good |

If you put Duchesne on that team, with Laine on one side and Wheeler on the other, he'd be a 70 point player. He scored 30 goals for the first time last year and had 59 points in year where there were only 17 70 point scorers, in a league where scoring is down, on a team 24th in scoring.
Furthermore, he didn't kill penalties but he could and carries with him a 60 percent faceoff percentage. As I list everything off, I just came to a conclusion: please don't trade him, Avs. |

Amen! Avs need him. I feel like this was the breaking out party for duchene. He's going to be great for a long time yet! Extend him! 7 for 7!
Do you see him as a center or wing this coming season? How does him on the wing affect the dynamics of the forward lines cause then you would have soderberg centering the two line, Mitchel the third or fourth, would you slide colbourne or compher in one of the final spots? Or run the 3 lines centered by dutchy mack and soderberg? |

1. Can't extend him until 2019
2. It all depends on how they want to use Colborne
Right now I think Duchene centers a line with Grigorenko and Iginla

finalyl have time to comment on the Avs UFA moves.
They said they weren't going to make a big splash, and they lived up to their word. Small safe sound moves, nothing crazy, but nothing harmful either.
I like them since they are just a bunch of small low risk moves. Now just sign 1 more fwd (Pirri?) for cheap and I think they can just move onto getting their RFAs under contract.
Feel like they have a move or 2 left later on, since I assume the current line set ups will be
Grigo Mack Dutch
Landy Soderberg Rantanen
Comeau Colbourne Iggy
McLeod Mitchell Martinsen

Alright, let's do this.
Trouba and Burmistrov
For
Duchene
What needs to be added where on this? Burmi needs to go as he's gonna lose the numbers game here and I feel y'all might appreciate him more.
(Wheeler, Scheifele, Ehlers, Laine, Byfuglien, and Hellebuyck are untouchable. Should someone have a much bigger trade idea). |

yeah well you aren't getting Duchene, and Avs don't have Cap space to add Trouba and Burmi with MacKinnon, Trouba, Grigorenko, and Pickards contracts still up.

I really like the idea of adding Pirri. I was surprised when Anaheim let him walk. Can't believe he hasn't been scooped up by anyone yet. Could be a steal. |

Would Bigras be a eligible to be grabbed in an expansion draft if we kept him up next year? Unless we protected him obviously. Would it be a good idea to leave him down so we could protect other players? Just curious what yea think

Duchene will be paid more than Trouba next year unless Chevy or Sakic are stupid.
Duchene is also the only thing the Jets would want, and you guys need defensive help badly. Grigorenko an Pickard won't be more than 3-3.5 million combined, and Burmi's only making 1.55. MacKinnon on the other hand... He will be pricey. |
