You are asking the SABRES who the last KID out of COLLEGE has made an IMMEDIATE IMPACT...

Can't knock the logic on the Vesey thing.

- RhinoFan

Should have been more clear. The last college FA to make an impact.

I agree the hype is ridiculous.

I even think it is more ridiculous for teams to offer him a spot in their lineup without ever seeing him play with NHL players.

Edit: using your example with Chicago. Panarin has the spot. No way they would tell Vesey he could have it.

- rmiethaner

Was just using that as an example.

Well, he was drafted. So there are plenty of examples.

If the question is undrafted college FA's, then yes, very few. Martin St. Louis and Boyle.

To me it makes zero sense that he would sign before coming a free agent in August. He can still sign with Buffalo but why not hear what else is out there. What if Chicago offers a spot on Kane line or Pittsburgh offers him top 6 role? He would be crazy to sign with anyone before he's a free agent.

That being said, I think the hype about this guy is over the top. Who is the last college kid to make an immediate impact?

I know. I just can't see teams telling him exactly where he would play.

He was drafted 2 years ago. He's obviously not in same class as Johnny Hockey and Eichel.

Probably not, but he was drafted a round ahead of Johnny G.

I'm not sure this applies since Vesey is a FA due to him staying in school for 4 years without signing with Nashville. He was a 3rd rounder.

As far as UFA College Players, Torey Krug and Matt Read weren't bad additions (they were completely undrafted NCAA players)

As far as 3rd rounders from NCAA, the options are a-plenty.

The point is, the kid could have came and played last year. He does have a lot of talent. Not saying the Sabres can sign him, but I can understand why a guy with his skill set and cap hit is coveted by other NHL GMs.

So Eichel who won Hobey Baker as a Freshman = Vesey who won as a Senior? Vesey would be a nice free pick up outside the draft but let's not get carried away.

I think the big thing is the cap hit. If he was a true FA then I think teams would be very leery of giving this guy big money. Time will tell I guess.

I think you misread the point. Nobody compared the two.

I understand that. Was suggesting that he is a second tier guy who would be a nice pick up who might plug a hole.

I'm guessing you mean college FA? But he's not really, he was drafted in the 3rd round. Also jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau made pretty big impacts
