I think the only reason is to hear, within the CBA terms, what other teams will offer. Money is not the option. If Murray and Bylsma can "guarantee" a top 6 and top PP time... I don't see why he would wait for something else... but I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.

That makes the most sense is Fowler for a first. Our first should be a late round pick. The Ducks have a stupid internal cap, so it's likely they do not want to bring money on the books. If you get Fowler for a first... you do that. If it's a first+ then the return needs to be more than Fowler.

The only thing they can offer is playing time. If Buffalo can guarantee all of that this week, what's the point in waiting? He can't make more money, if what I've heard is true.

No guarantee it's a late pick. With the RFAs we need to resign I don't think we have the room for a 4 million cap hit.

True, but then again if he has another team as his #1 and has to wait until 8/15, why not see what you already have in the bag. I just think we are a fallback at this point based on what has been said and not his intended destination. We know that we were on the "short list" but his intention to stay unsigned until he is a UFA means that we aren't at the top of the "short list". If we were at the top he'd sign, if we weren't on the list, he wouldn't meet. So we are somewhere in what Dante referred to as Purgatorio I believe.
