If we have a decent year next season and the 1st is in the 12-16 range I would do it. And then Murray could work a deal at the draft to get back into the first if he chose to. We have 2nds and 2 3rds to work with as trade to make that happen.

True, but then again if he has another team as his #1 and has to wait until 8/15, why not see what you already have in the bag. I just think we are a fallback at this point based on what has been said and not his intended destination. We know that we were on the "short list" but his intention to stay unsigned until he is a UFA means that we aren't at the top of the "short list". If we were at the top he'd sign, if we weren't on the list, he wouldn't meet. So we are somewhere in what Dante referred to as Purgatorio I believe.

haha yes, a month and a half in purgotorio to guess and speculate. Hopefully some kind of news will come out of the meeting he has this week, but the sabres were very tight lipped about the stamkos meeting. so... maybe rumors will be all we have to go on for awhile

If he goes to free agency and listens to offers, we won't get him. I've already moved on from him. Look at other options at LW. Or we're stuck with Moulson in the top 6.

If I had a choice between Hoffman or Nash I take Hoff. But trading within your division would be awfully difficult. We would have to offer up Ennis or Girgs and a high pick or prospect. In essence we'd have to overpay to get him. It might cost a player and a top prospect.

Id prefer both but assuming they cant land vesey I think its realistic. Mainly because even though its probably a cheaper/better option, I don't think Nash waves to come here. Your probably creating a package around Ennis and the 2017 1st and then whatever else they need but I think its price worth paying.

No he doesn't, he is obviously not afraid to snub a NHL organization.

I think the only reason is to hear, within the CBA terms, what other teams will offer. Money is not the option. If Murray and Bylsma can "guarantee" a top 6 and top PP time... I don't see why he would wait for something else... but I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.
