Also, I just wonder how our offseason plans are affected by his delay (8/15) in signing. That is the frustrating part to me. I'd almost want to give him permission to meet with his other teams of interest so he can make a decision sooner...

I think Murray would at least have an idea of how the negotiations are going by this week. If he thinks that he can get it done he'll pursue it, if not he'll look elsewhere. I don't think he signs here, but I also don't think all of our eggs are in that basket.

Fair enough - do you think it would leave a sour taste in the mouths of the vets who wouldn't be threatened?

It may, but again, this is Vesey who has won a Hobey Baker award and every scout in the league says he's a top 6 forward. To be honest I don't know what the consensus was on Girgs or Larsson as far as top 6 or 9 forwards coming into the league. Right now, they're not playing top 6 hockey. If Vesey comes in and has more skill than Girgs and Larsson so be it. If he can handle a top 6 position, I give it to Vesey.

With the assets he had when he took over, any one of us could have improved the team. It was impossible not to.

And that's my point. He hasn't had the timeline to make any judgements about him as a GM, so why are people making all these judgements about him? This upcoming season will have a lot to say about wether or not he's right for the job in Buffalo IMO.

Nothing that hasn't been said a million times, unfortunately. If this is Murray and Vesey's first meeting talking numbers and contract then I'm not too worried. You take a week to try to get him to buy what you're selling, let him think it over, and if he decides it's what he wants, great. If not, he either goes home or goes somewhere else.

I say they offer him a contract that's got all the bonus bells and whistles that Reinhart has, and make sure he understands that it isn't going to get any better any where else, whether in terms of $ or in terms of teammates or in terms of factilites and future.

Then I would tell him he has one week to make his decision or the offer is rescinded and we will try to trade his rights to someone else.
