Ottawa has an internal cap. They never spend to the max. Sven has proved in the second half that he deserves to play in the NHL. The deal is not a good one for Ottawa but Sven and something else could work maybe the CBJ second Sven and A small piece

Nobody is going to give Mike Hoffman $6M this offseason, not Ottawa, not nobody. That's Taylor Hall money. Barkov didn't get it and Seth jones didn't even get 6M aav.

Reilly Smith's 5x5 is a comparable contract and I would say Hoffman is worth something similar.

Now, what would it take to get him out of Ottawa? Sven for sure would have to go as they would have a huge hole on the left side, probably a defensive prospect and a customary 2nd at a minimum.

This is where I think JB missed because I think McCann and Sven get the deal done but I don't think Ottawa gives him up for anything less than boeser

Burrows isn't getting traded. They'll do the right thing and let him ride out his contract. All this female doging about the Sedins being tired at the end of the season is hot air because this team is a first round playoff exit at best. Look how teams like San Jose, Edmonton, Calgary and Arizona all improved more than the Canucks since April and we're already far behind everyone else in the conference (except Colorado -- wtf joe?)

Who Sbisa and..... Hamhuis, Lucic?

Even if Sbisa is gone at some point during the season isn't Hamhuis probably the best D we could get for the same money ?

I understand why they moved on from him though and certainly prefer it to signing him to a long term deal.

I just am worried that our expectations from Tryamkin and Larsen are too optimistic and it would be nice to have a more steady guy to anchor those guys.

Not to mention we are guaranteed to lose at least one of our top 4 D for an extended period of time.
