Who Sbisa and..... Hamhuis, Lucic?

Even if Sbisa is gone at some point during the season isn't Hamhuis probably the best D we could get for the same money ?

I understand why they moved on from him though and certainly prefer it to signing him to a long term deal.

I just am worried that our expectations from Tryamkin and Larsen are too optimistic and it would be nice to have a more steady guy to anchor those guys.

Not to mention we are guaranteed to lose at least one of our top 4 D for an extended period of time.

- belcherbd

Agreed. I figured that Hamhuis would be getting 4+ years and at that term I wasn't interested, but two years? I'd have done that.

I'm sure Benning has a master plan, but the way he handled Hamhuis sure doesn't seem like it.

Oh well. Another NTC off the books.

It is not hard to understand, Canucks moved on from Hamhuis . He isn't part of their plans. They don't want to give a contract to an older slower guy who had half a good year.

They literally had zero interest in Hamhuis. Didn't make an offer. Linden and Benning don't think he adds value to the team and he will block the younger players development. I find it hilariously ironic that the posters complaining about Hamhuis are the same ones advocating a Toronto style rebuild

I'm not advocating a Toronto style rebuild. But if he's not in your plans why string him along? Don't tell him right up until free agency that you're potentially interested in extending him. Better yet, maybe approach him more than a week before the TDL about waiving that NTC.

I think they were being polite. It is not professional to say we don't see a future here for Dan

I wasn't referring to you w my post..Hamhuis said the Canucks handled everything well and he wasn't complaining so why are you? If Benning came out and said what he actually thinks about his value would you applaud him?

Who knows why GM's do anything. Maybe he was seeing if there was a trade to make room for Dan. Maybe Dan was in the plans until he was able to trade for Guddy. We will never know

'Cause what else am I going to do?

Edit:

The last time Benning came out and commented on a player's value I definitely was not applauding him. I don't see what is wrong with letting a player know that you aren't interested in bringing him back.

But as other posters have pointed out, I don't have any insider insight. Maybe they were just hedging their bets, maybe they were just being polite.

I'm wondering if they tried to move Sbisa at all?

I could have lived with Sbisa moved and signing Hamhuis, but I don't think they could have kept both, especially if Hutton was second pairing with Gudbranson, that would have been an expensive 3rd pairing and that wouldn't fly.

I think Benning was upfront he kept on saying soon we'll talk , soon soon soon. I said months ago how hard is it to grab a pen a paper and tell Dan sit down , let's get this done. See how long it takes Bo to get signed . It will be done before you can blink

Hamhuis was not part of Benning's plan

Sure...are you saying Kane will be a canuck? I don't think so myself and if he is are you implying it's in a trade for Sbisa....or Sbisa is just gone period with no relation to a Kane deal.

I still owe Vantel $20 to jump start because Hamhuis wasn't signed

- Makita

I'm flat out saying Kane will be a Canuck. It's no secret that Murray is sick of Kane's shtick and is trying to move him. JB is looking for a player of Kane's ilk and from reports has inquired....

I doubt Sbisa is involved but it's well known JB is trying to move him once Gudbranson was acquired....just connecting the dots...

As Hamhuis said himself, the situation was fluid..I suspect as soon as Larsen signed the situation was done. Hamhuis is a smart guy, he knew the Canucks had limited interest. They didn't impede his ability to sign with another team

Kane - if available being damaged goods, take a chance.

Barrie - PMD you always have to look at, and a local boy.

JB is on record stating he is in the market for top 6 scoring.
