I'm from Toronto originally and lived there again a few years ago.
They are rude and ignorant but they support their team no matter what. We would have 8000 people at games if the Canucks had the same past 15 years as the Leafs.

- Scooby_Doo

Supporting their team no matter what isn't a good idea. Leads to mediocrity or worse which is why the leafs have sucked for the last sixty years and have had long stretches of being the worst franchise in sports, according to Forbes I believe, and some of the rudest fans.

I don't want this to turn into a poop show this early in the day. Better for everyone if you just back the (frank) up.

I dont think he has overvalued either.

One is a 24 year old puck moving RHD (which is already enough to score a massive return) scoring at .58 PPG, nearly had his second 50 point season on a pretty bad avalanche team.

The second is a former 2nd overall pick, who is 23 and has 4-20 goal seasons (would have had it in all 5 of his seasons if you pro-rate the lockout shortened one), he's scored at nearly .70 PPG and is a physical hard hitting winger. Not to mention one of the youngest captains in league history.

You may not want to pay the price or like it, but then you wont get either

- WhiteLie

Edmonton Oilers proved you wrong. Tanev(as a RH top2 D) value is extremely high. A player like him is worth less(not be a ton) than Barrie(another top 2 RHD) but he would be pretty close to Landeskog straight up.

I still don't understand why Benning didn't try to get Jamie McGinn. At 27 he is at the peak of his abilities as a poor man's PF. Just the type of player Benning says he wants to sign and signed a cap friendly (and 3 year term) deal.

The deal and his age would have made him an ideal bridge signing to allow the kids to develop. The best part is he wouldn't have cost us assets...

Agreed, the Hall-Larsson is an example of the RHD market value right now, its a little crazy and harder to predict. That being said, my opinion is that I do think the pedigree and youth of Barrie/Landeskog drives the price higher than Tanev and some C level prospects. Tanev does have tremendous value, but has been a little underrated/appreciated which I think doesnt do any favours in the trade market

Maybe he did try and McGinn had no interest in coming?

You over value Barries and Landeskog by a mile.
- Retinalz

All I was saying was what the avs would counter as his offers would get a laugh and a hang up on the phone ....although I do feel Barrie might be overrated but I don't get to watch him much so i could be wrong too

Never ...not in a million years ....I like tanev but that's not close IMO

You can't use the oilers as an example ...they had a very unique situation which the Devils took full advantage of

What does that all lead to? Simple, hockey in Vancouver is in trouble, and it's not from a lack of support. TV ratings for the Canucks in BC get better every year, that's not the issue. It's the fact that because of the points I raised above, actually going to a game and buying tickets, merchandise, concessions and other revenue which is what in the end brings FA his profits are going down. I can tell you that he's not a very patient man, and bleeding red ink through what people consider a full rebuild will bankrupt him. There's just not enough hockey fans left in Greater Vancouver who'll actually pay or can afford to go to 41 home games a year. If you want to get people who aren't fans of hockey to be fans, you need a winner because in Vancouver there's far too much to do to go to watch a team struggle 4-5 years with youth trying to gel into a contender. In that scenario, for those wanting FA to sell, he may very well do so and keep in mind, a new owner probably isn't going to be from Vancouver or have loyalty to the city and might and I stress might move it to an area (like Seattle or Portland or Quebec City) where they could have a better chance of making money.

tl;dr Watch what you wish for, you just might get it, in a way you didn't want or expect. That's the danger we're facing now.

- DariusKnight

While you do make some good points - you're out of your mind if you think the Canucks will crumble that fast. They're one of the most profitable teams in NHL - worth $745 million dollars. This rebuild/retool we're going thru is going to stunt income for a few years but the Canuck machine is much more powerful than you're NOT giving them credit for. Similar situation - take Chicago, who were basically financially in the same place we were back in the early 2000's while they were losing constantly and rebuilding and they came out the other end - like Andy DuFresne. I truly don't believe that the Canucks will have a losing culture while the Sedins are there and by the time they retire those morals will be passed on to the next generation - and those prospects are the ones to get excited about. Exercise some patience.
