Just throwing this out there... Does anyone think that Virt might end up in the AHL for a time this season?

I'd say half the posters feel he should be in the AHL. Personally, I don't agree. If he comes into camp out of shape then by all means, banish him to the minors. The fact he is training with the Sedins is a great sign.

Now the debate around whether or not he develops better here or in Utica is interesting

Yeah, a guy with zero pro experience "easily" replaces our top pairing Dman ๐Ÿ˜’
- Max.Betts

Have you heard the comments from Linden on Stecher?

Not saying he will easily replace him this year, but in 3-4 years when we are competitive he will.

I just realized it's Tuesday.
You guys almost had me going with all that Tanev bullpoop.

I think we should trade Tanev for Dan Hamuis, he's still got gas in the tank. Maybe trade Bo for Yakapov too, yolo.

haha it's funny how we now have a glut of dmen ... apparently. before the end of the season popular belief was that we had no one. a trade a draft and a college signing later, trade dman now!!!

Depends on his camp performance and if they pick up the so called gritty winger.

In my opinion he was the best free agent available in college. Certainly better than Caguilla

Even if the canucks want to make a concerted effort to make the playoffs and willie has a more 'stable' choice in a veteran player?

Canโ€™t develop sitting in the press box.

What? No.

But you mentioned all of them having better years. All rookies don't just project up every year. They do have ups and downs, season to season.

I think it's reasonable to expect injuries to play a part in projecting how the rosters going to do. Don't you factor that in? Considering the history? A lot of man games lost last season. And the season before. It's known the canucks have a tough schedule.

I don't think I said anything outlandish.

For some reason most mental midgets on here see the roster as static: 1st line LW, or 2nd line C, or third pairing Dman etc... I've said it before but the days of having (set) lines combos are done. We can be reasonably assured the Sedins will play together most of the time, but after that it's a total crapshoot based on dynamic factors like injuries, hot streaks, cold streaks and chemistry. We expect LE to play with the Sedins but I'll set the over/under at January 1 as the date by which we'll have seen both Hansen and Rodin play on their wing in the first period of a game.

Players are compensated based on what they bring to the team as a whole. There is a premium paid for goal scoring but JB seems to be acquiring the more versatile player in every trade. When he talks about guys who can play up and down the lineup he's setting the team up so that guys can slot in-and-out of different roles on the team. In any given season you will easily dress 15 different forwards and 9 defensemen. Some teams see 5 different goalies a year. That's why having guys like stretcher (subban?) are invaluable.. they can come up from minors, fill a hole, and go back without having to clear waivers.

Good chance he starts the season there, depending on how training camp goes. Or if there are trades he could be a guarantee.

Don't put him in the press box, and you don't think this team is making the playoffs.

Boxes and boxes of them. I had a business many moons ago importing and selling sunglasses. When I moved on to another business I was left with about 100 pairs.

I'm not sure you are having the same conversation. Also, I've never heard anybody on here insinuate lines are static. I'm certain Loui will play on the second line many games this season

Bo sometimes hits, Hank and Dank were throwing punches last season. I think Etem starts to play a more physical forecheck kind of game. I remember read an interview where he seemed to realize that is what he needs to do in order to stay in the league. Dorsett may hit like a mosquito, but he still hits.

Our lineup would be a disaster without Virt. Softest forward group in the league

The reason why I ask is that most fan predicting a better season than Virt's 7 goals. He probably would but there's a chance he might get bumped because the focus has changed for the club.

I'm surprised that some aren't more upset about McCann's departure.
9 goals/9 assists projects pretty good using the same set of assumptions.

I think he will be. Virt may start in Utica, but I think he is first call up in a forward is injured. I think he still plays more than 40 NHL games and prob gets 7+ goals in those 40+ games. If he plays a full season I could see him getting 15+ if they let him play a full 82.
