haha it's funny how we now have a glut of dmen ... apparently. before the end of the season popular belief was that we had no one. a trade a draft and a college signing later, trade dman now!!!
- Sayros

I dont think thats where it comes from. All joking aside, the value of RHD is astronomical right now. Gubranson was acquired at a high price and Larsson at an even higher price. VAN has a very good RHD in Tanev, so while there are several NHL D on the roster, trading him would be trying to capitalize on a hot market. They wont trade him, and I am fine with that, but if it leaks that a similar all-star forward was turned down in an offer for Tanev, I would be extremely disappointed

Any bipolar wanna bet that Evander Kane is a canucks this season and Sbisa is not?

I think he will be. Virt may start in Utica, but I think he is first call up in a forward is injured. I think he still plays more than 40 NHL games and prob gets 7+ goals in those 40+ games. If he plays a full season I could see him getting 15+ if they let him play a full 82.

The reason why I ask is that most fan predicting a better season than Virt's 7 goals. He probably would but there's a chance he might get bumped because the focus has changed for the club.

I'm surprised that some aren't more upset about McCann's departure.
9 goals/9 assists projects pretty good using the same set of assumptions.

- bloatedmosquito

I think i projected Virt to score 10-15. A 3 goal jump I would hope is easily obtainable or we made a poor draft pick
Edit. If Virt does end up in the minors it's because Benning brought in a more experienced, physical player that can chip in 10 plus goals

Let's not go that far.

I like him. Exactly what the nucks need. But the team focus has changed and I think he might not get the games to score the high end of your projection (15). I know I'm pessimistic but 10 goals would be great.

Why would we trade a solid young player for another solid young player? The only Tanev trade I would entertain is Tanev for Trouba. But WPG doesn't need to do that.
- Retinalz

Tanev doesn't fit into the physical gritty game plan that JB wants the team to follow. We need skill guys and physical gritty guys, not marshmallow guys who can't get a puck through to the net.

Don't take anything kaptaan says seriously around here. He thinks Taj is a great hockey mind. Though Sbisa is expendable.

I thought you and Taj were companions. Did you two have a falling out?

we won't get anything for miller. it'll be exact same situation as vrbata hamhuis. we'd have to eat salary to the point wouldn't be worth the 4th rounder or whatever.

on another note, i'm interested to see how the changes in goalie gear change things up. could be alot of guys out of work having difficulty adjusting. while markstrom is athletic, have to admit he did look like a michelin man circa garth snow last couple years out there.

- Sayros

eating salary for 1 year is nothing if he is traded & we r not in a PO position

Why do you feel the need to jump in all the time and state the obvious? Is it an age related thing? Is that what happens to old people as they get older and the faculties start wearing down.

I'm not sure the team focus has changed. They never said full rebuild like Toronto, they said draft and develop. I suspect JV will play wherever he will develop the most, and I trust that the people paid to run the team know better than I what league that's in.

Bo sometimes hits, Hank and Dank were throwing punches last season. I think Etem starts to play a more physical forecheck kind of game. I remember read an interview where he seemed to realize that is what he needs to do in order to stay in the league. Dorsett may hit like a mosquito, but he still hits.
- Retinalz

Bo 69 hits in 82 games
Daniel 20 in 82
Hank 9 in 74
Dorsett 127 in 71
JV 128 in 55

JV is our biggest hitter among the forwards, more hits than Dorsett in 16 less games.

Edit: Etem had 61 in 39 games, he better get it going.

I hope Virt and Etem can score more than 7 goals! Sure, they won't all improve but collectively it's very reasonable to assume our younger players will improve overall. Injuries will happen every year and when they do, Gaunce, Burrows, Grenier will chip in a few goals. I wouldn't forecast my goal projections based on future injuries as its a variable beyond our control.

Now if you want to discuss depth in Utica then that is a valid concern. Are we better equipped to deal with injuries at this point compared to last year? Perhaps marginally...it's still only July

- CanuckDon

those r very reasonable assumption's.
JB did state he needed to get us more depth & he was at fault.
give it time & see how we set up.

It has to do with their release time. Elder takes a long delayed wind up which generates a hard shot but to no ones surprise it gets blocked. Players like Hutton and Juolevi have a much quicker release and as a result will likely generate more offense in the future. Hamhuis falls somewhere in between
- CanuckDon

both Hutton & Juolevi can walk the line where as Edler is a 1 timer only

AMEN 👍

For some reason most mental midgets on here see the roster as static: 1st line LW, or 2nd line C, or third pairing Dman etc... I've said it before but the days of having (set) lines combos are done. We can be reasonably assured the Sedins will play together most of the time, but after that it's a total crapshoot based on dynamic factors like injuries, hot streaks, cold streaks and chemistry. We expect LE to play with the Sedins but I'll set the over/under at January 1 as the date by which we'll have seen both Hansen and Rodin play on their wing in the first period of a game.

Players are compensated based on what they bring to the team as a whole. There is a premium paid for goal scoring but JB seems to be acquiring the more versatile player in every trade. When he talks about guys who can play up and down the lineup he's setting the team up so that guys can slot in-and-out of different roles on the team. In any given season you will easily dress 15 different forwards and 9 defensemen. Some teams see 5 different goalies a year. That's why having guys like stretcher (subban?) are invaluable.. they can come up from minors, fill a hole, and go back without having to clear waivers.

- Max.Betts

I think you are referring to Dale Weise. Extremely versatile winger who slots up and down the lineup.

We could trade Tanev for him and a young d prospect.

Just throwing this out there... Does anyone think that Virt might end up in the AHL for a time this season?
- bloatedmosquito

only if someone else shines in training camp ala Rodin &/or some mystery prospect.
idk if that's realistic tbh

But I don't remember them saying they were going to retool the roster so the twins can have one last shot at the cup before they shut it down. I do remember emphasis on drafting and 'doing it right'.

I think they are going for it too early and not being patient enough to develop slowly and methodically.
