he sure had his problems yes.
Gillis had a few good points too, like getting players to sign for far less and also finding the correct players to fill a need.
the 2011 cup wouldnt have happened without Hammer, Malholtra, Lappy, higgins, Torres and erhoff. He acquired 6 players in all. All 6 were a home run for us.

Too bad he was SO WEAK in other areas. I wish we could Mr potato head a GM together

I'll admit for the first time in years your prospect pool actually has some guys I am hearing about outside of Van fans which bodes well but still until they play in the NHL and transition into the players you all want them to be then they aren't much different than the likes of Schroeder, shirokov,Jensen, Cannata....and I know some of these are higher picks ...but I've seen Tim erixon, Greg Nemisz, Leland Irving, Rico Fata, and Daniel Tkaczuk

Why the east coast media would put so much pressure on kids is ridiculous. Matthews didn't exactly look over the top to be drafted by the Leaf's. Players simply don't want to play in markets like TO & MTL because the media are such d*cks, that's why the East sucks.

Back east the Habs lack scoring for years.
The Leafs had horrible owners/management for decades.

Matthews looked devastated. I think the Leafs will only have him for 7 years (max) and then he'll go to Arizona. He may even demand a trade beforehand.

The way The Star is currently reporting the toxic situation between him and the Leafs i wouldn't be surprised if he never plays a game for them.

They should shelter Matthews from the media better, EDM did a pretty good job on McDavid although there's a huge difference in the market. Keep him from the Wolves.
