My worry is what if Rodin turns out to be quite good this year? Could pose a problem. - NorthNuck
I think he is going to be better than most think. He is in his prime and is coming off being MVP of possibly the second best league in the world. I say he gos for 20 goals. |

So van can protect
Henrik
Daniel
Loui
Sutter
Hansen
Bo
Baert
Edler
Tanev
Guds
Exempt
virtanen
Gaunce
Tree
Hutton
Exposed
Sbisa
Dorsett, Granlund
Markstrom
Then everyone who hasn't played 40 games this season or 70 games the last 2 season.
What is the first and second professional, does that include the AHL?
Correct? - manvanfan
Yes, what isnt clear to me is the Europe/KHL professionals because Tree and many others have been playing in the top leagues and pros over there since they were 16 (which obviously shouldnt count).
I am curious about that clause that ASL was referring to, about RFA goalies you can expose. Seems odd but I guess see how well Gartieg plays this year, if good keep him protected and find a backup to expose, if he isnt then you possibly have your goalie to expose |

Travis Green has also said he thinks Stecher needs AHL time as his next step.

Even if doesnt id prefer he plays there next season and hopefully JV too. We need to stop rushing guys in to the league and letting them properly develop. We have a top notch coach down there so we should be using him. Plus he seems like the type who wont take no poop from his players might help in JVs case to get knocked down a peg. |

I read one of those cap sites has a list of all the players on each team that will need to be protected.. I just dont know which one it is |

The goalies have to be qualified first if they are RFA's then they can be exposed. |

iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list |

Haha yeah I read it, just seems curious to me because the rules dont say you can elect to make any other young player available to satisfy requirements. Also seems like a shady loophole that a team might utilize to say they exposed a goalie while protected their top NHL talent.
RFA goalies for next season for anyone that cares: http://www.generalfanager...hoots=Both&team=all&RFA=1 |

Now that the blog is posted, actual news!
Markstrom's contract extension is done. Three years, AAV $3.67 million.
Works for me. - Carol Schram
Interesting....I posted a few days ago that it would be 2 years @ 3.75 per ($7.5MM). slightly lower cap rate with an extra year. Sound deal. |

I was explaining today to a friend who doesn't follow hockey closely how fast hockey is growing in the Asian countries. Wondering if genetics play any role because when it gets down to it average heights will play a role. Everyone always says "you can't teach size" |

Not sure how you structured this but they have to expose a goalie, so unless they get one under contract they have to put out Markstrom. Also some of your "protected" are ineligible to be selected anyways - WhiteLie
I listed all our roster players who are ineligible as protected anyways just to give a sense. Also, we can extend Bachman and expose him as our 1 goalie. |

I believe AHL KHL ECHL &/or any pro league counts towards 2yrs pro

I think it will be time to deal Hansen at the deadline if were out of a spot. With Eriksson, JV and Boeser coming up next season not looking like there will be a place for him. - mauryballstein

Also Rodin could turn out to be a bust so that's a potential 3rd spot |

Other possibility is a hometown 1yr contract if Miller cannot go where he likes eg California. Why I say this is Demko will not be ready & Marky should've proven he can be #1. If not its 1A & 1B for a season.
Maybe a 1/4m limited NTC |

A minor concern I have for the expansion draft is if Gilman is selected as the new GM of Vegas that he will have better insight on the Canuck players/prospects. Though there has been considerable turnover, he was still around for some of JB's time and has good insight on the player's relationship with the team from his days negotiating contracts for Gillis. I would be surprised if he was GM that he takes Sbisa or any other poor contract JB handed out |
