What am I missing? Why does Philly want to unload Schenn?
- CanuckDon

Philly doesn't want to pay him.

Hank will be around for 3-4 seasons so plenty of time to find/draft/develop a 1C.
Not saying its easy but no need to force a deal.
D has improved and with prospects also in the system.
Goal is well taken care of.
Need to draft more F's & fill up the cupboard more til the right deal presents itself.

He struggles with not deviating from his plan during a game.
- VanHockeyGuy

exactly.
and when you look at any cup winning team they always have a coach that knows how to swiftly change a game. You cant win without it. WD is probably the worst coach I have ever seen at that aspect.

As said by the poster you responded to the system needs to change. Actually its lack of a defensive system. We need 1.

Jarvis was a defensive guy as an assistant, lets hope he can add that to this team

How nuts would this crowd go if JB traded for Kane and Schenn?
- VANTEL

we don't have enough draft picks to give away to make that happen…

Huge difference though, Brayden Schenn JUST put up a good offensive season with 59 points. When Richards went to LA he'd already put up 66, 62, 80 & 75 points in consecutive years. Same with Carter when he went to Columbus, he'd already scored 46 goals and had 23, 29, 33 & 36 goal seasons.

Brayden Schenn isn't in that league yet.

- LeftCoaster

He may not be hard to tell because when Richards and Carter put up those numbers in Philly the league was also scoring more. Hate that the NHL is slow to try to get scoring back up.

Schenn put up good last half season numbers and has progressed though just behind Mackinnon and Scheiffle numbers.

Adding EG & Loui will help a lot.

Schenn was a fifth overall. Same as a player like Drouin the cost will be high.

Unlike most here I doubt Canucks are getting a top 10 pick next year.

- VANTEL

agree I think we will be picking somewhere from 11-17

Realistically what should Schenn be worth and can we squeeze him in?

Above at least $5m, probably looking for more but if you look at how much Mackinnon and Scheiffle just got over $6m per year he's not there but not far behind either.

They have a lot of good young D so it would need to be a forward.

My two untouchables are Bo and Boeser on the forwards.

This is highly probable.
That said accumulating assets as we have can be in a deal to move up next draft or not. I see trades & UFA's being in the near future or next offseason. UFA market is slim atm but with expansion coming patience is best. JB will have cap space next year & what he does with it will be important.

Personally I think he is only worth about 4.5 million per over the next 2- 3 years. I think we need to see more from him. If he is asking Mackinnon, Schielfie and Hall money he isn't there.

silly to get attached to players, they are all a commodity. First round draft picks are another story though

Strangely enough they paid Couturier 4.3 million per over the next six years.
