Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Defensive Depth Explored as Development Camp Concludes Trevor Linden singled out defenceman Troy Stecher and new assistant coach Doug Jarvis for praise after the Vancouver Canucks' development camp wrapped up, and sources say that the team signed camp standout Michael Carcone to an entry-level contract.

Thanks Carol. Nice wrap-up from the camp.

I really hope they sign Pirri. Right age and fit for high potential depth.

Thanks Carol!

Liked the d breakdown. Hard to imagine Sbisa and Tryamkin as a pair, but I wouldn't want to be a forward in front of that net if they are (I would like to be one in many other dangerous areas, as those two may get scored on a fair bit). Maybe I'm wrong and Larsen does get deployed in the six spot, nice to see guys competing a bit for those spots either way.

It would be nice if some of those kids could come to training camp and run shootout drills

I agree, no way Hutton gets sent down at this point but I wouldn't be surprised if we see some sophomore struggles this year.

It will be interesting if Juolevi absolutely kills it during camp and Hutton disappoints.

If Juolevi forces the team to keep him, although highly unlikely, this defense will be incredibly young and inexperienced.

Edler Tanev
Juolevi Gudbranson
Hutton Sbisa
Tryamkin Larsen

Those vids were exciting. The thing I noticed is these kids play harder to the net. I think Benning is filling the prospect pool with a nice mix.

I do think Stetcher Juolevi and Brisebois will all be NHLers one day so transitioning out Edler when needed should be smooth.

It will be intersting to see. OJ could force Canucks hand as you state. Not that I want to hurry him up but rather I am hoping that his skill is already NHL ready.

I agree that the next few weeks will be painfully inactive but it won't be dull on here as you are now familiar with our nonsense

Jim has one more trade to make for a second line LW. We have too many forwards but still need an upgrade.

I think Benning pulls the trigger right around arbitration.

At the very least we know they haven't penciled him in like they did with Virtanen last year. If he makes it, it will because he has shown he is ready, or at least ready for a taste.

I think going into next season, the most intriguing player for me is Tryamkin.

He was much more impressive than I expected in the small sample we got of him last year but still clearly had some conditioning and systems issues. I'm excited to see what he has been able to pick up over the off season.

I would hope that OJ becomes one of the last cuts, maybe even playing a few regular season games. He wont have had the proper offseason to really gain the strength needed to play this season, but I'd like for them to give him a taste

Why rush any of the kids.

I say Demo plays 2 years in AHL. Boeser and OJ play one in year in NCAA and Junior, respectively, plus one year in the AHL. All three join the big club in 2019/2020 season.

Edler should be part of a deal for Landeskog right now

I would hope he targets Kilhorn but no idea what the cost would be as they wouldn't want salary back.

Only way we are getting Landeskog, is if one of Horvat, Virtanen are involved as well as likely a 1st or Boeser.

I certainly don't want to see Juolevi rushed in. The kid needs to put on some much needed muscle if he is going to be effective in the NHL. Ideally, if he has an excellent camp, I'd like to see him play a few games with the Canucks to get a taste of being pro, and then get sent back to London, to continue to improve and fill out his lean body. I'd love to see him dominate the OHL for another year, which would give him that much more confidence when transitioning to the NHL

Boeser will have played 2 years already. He will be ready for NHL next year.

Demko will be first call up with injuries , you may in fact see him playing this year.

A few of you said you will be attending the Young Stars tournament in Penticton. The South Okanagan Events Centre is also the home of the BC Hockey Hall of fame, its worth checking out. The practices are interesting to watch as well.

Anyone have info on Megna? Is he like Cracknel ? Is he slotted for 4 th line center?

I'm guessing Utica. Unless there is a trade there just isn't room.

Landy is 23 I think
I'd go Edler and JV for Landeskog and 2 2nds

I think he actually plays more wing, kinda like Cracknel did I guess. Cracknel made the NHL with us and other teams for being a 4th line crasher that wasn't a liability.

Megna from what I understand is a scorer at the AHL level that wasn't ever able to translate it to the NHL. He is more like the Blair Jones signing last year.

Leaves some pretty big holes on our team and not sure it would be enough to get Landeskog.

Agreed hut landy is bona-fide top six for the next say 8 years and we aren't winning in the next 2 or 3 so Edler will be on the down slope. I'd take a shot that's just me.
