the 2014 draft may go down as the Canucks best draft ever.
Virtanen
MaCann = Gudbranson
Demko
Tryamkin
a top six forward PF, two potential top 4 d-men and a goalie who looks like he has a chance to be a solid #1.... that's pretty spectacular if you ask me. - Mungo

My bets have made 90 dollars to charity. I paid 30 and won 60 . That's a good cause |

We seem to be set in D now and Goalies are good for a few years . Now work on the front end |

Giving them a low ranking for Vision I think is also unfair.
Benning has stated his vision:
1. restock the prospect pipeline
2. fill the 24 year old (ish) player gap
3. add overall depth
4. build from the back and up the middle
5. aim to make the playoffs every year
Considering where he started ... I'm happy.
I don't get the whole "tear it down - tank" idea. Who has that worked for?
Chicago is always held up as an example. But I don't think they ever "tanked" on purpose. They just sucked for a while and got some exceptional picks.

We still need an offensive D-man or 2, someone to QB the PP. |

Brisebois reminds me of Hamhuis style. Stetcher I think is going to surprise , I think he will be called up on injury and could win a spot. He has some decent skills.
Juolevi I thought looked like Tanev but many here say he has a very good offensive game. I still think we need a trigger man on D |

I think it's fair to give Larson a shot at that, and if it fails miserably we'll be looking at making some moves. Problem there is that any defensive trades are probably lopsided as h*ll. I could see a poor powerplay affecting the outcomes of the season pretty heavily. Hoping the Eriksson Sedin connection is strong, and maybe Louie will help Edler with some more options for passing, puck retrieval and exposing defensive breakdowns. |

I want to say we are set in goal, but still need to address top line forwards and top pairing dmen in future drafts. and every team is looking to make these picks.
I think our d is much improved from last year at this time. just want to see what they look like in the fall. |

Please keep Edler off the PP . He is stuck in 1967 |

I think Larson should be show cased and sold at TDL. He has pro exp, which means we could lose him at expansion draft. If he puts up good PP numbers he would get taken. |

I love the Canucks or did. Was a season ticket holder for almost 25 years. Bruins are my favorite team but I wanted Vancouver to win the cup regardless. Was heading to the Roxy that night to drink from the cup with my buddies that work & sing there but took in the riot instead. The entertainment district got shut down.
I even liked the hiring of Linden, Benning & Desjardins at the time but it has been an unmitigated disaster. Worst asset management I have ever seen. Having a meddlesome owner is at the route of it.
It’s unfortunate. They needed to start a proper rebuild 2 years ago & not give assets away or keep making trades trying to make the playoffs. Garrison & Bieksa if moved should have been traded at the deadline; if at all, when there values were the highest. Now we have zero to show for Hamhuis as well, another solid top 4 NHL Dman. 3 years ago the Canucks had 1 of the top 5 D’s for top 6 in the NHL. Their top 4 wasn’t as good as the really good teams but Tanev was young & our #5. Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Garrison & Tanev. Solid.
Garrison was replaced with Sbisa, Bieksa with Bartowski & now Hamhuis with God knows who; I don’t like Gubranson, & Hamhuis wanted to stay. Gabranson is a hitter with a physical presence nothing else, Hamhuis is better suited to today’s faster game & still has years of service left as a top 4 as did Garrison, played as TB’s #3 last season & 4 the season prior, cup & conference appearances the last 2 years, Bieksa Anaheim’s #4 this season.
Brutal but it doesn’t just stop there.
This is not a playoff team. 1 of the worst defenses in all of hockey, scoring after the top line is virtually non existent. Good luck & good riddance. Gave up my season tickets even after the incredible enticements I was offered to keep them. Everyone I know but 1 other person has as well this summer. 3 years of dropping attendance. Curious to see how may people buy tickets & show up next season. Couldn’t give my tickets away to the 2 SJ games in March! & numerous other games last year, nor could my scalper buddy sell them. The majority of games I attended many were shown as 18K & change in paid attendance, couldn't have been more than 13K in the building if that.
I would suggest all Vancouver fans go to ESPN, highlight teams, choose Canucks, then click on transactions & few everything Benning has done since arriving. I should warn you it's not for the faint of heart. |

Any poll which consists of 200 people or less is a farce, not to mention the way some of the questions were presented. The only way in which the poll would have any sort of relevance or validity, is if those questions were posed to the actual fanbase (and even then you are dealing with fair weather fans and people who barely know the sport, let alone having the ability to make an informed opinion) and not the hockey world in general. You are obviously working with bias as well as lack of information and ignorance. - Zogg
I couldn't care less about a poll. It doesn't mean a thing. Lets see how things look when the puck is dropped in October. |

I looked at the previous years before teams like Chicago and Los Angeles, they were drafting around middle of the pack previous years picking up pieces. Then we're real bad for a few to add high quality to the pieces that had been developing already. No team that I've looked at has straight up tanked on purpose one season and have gone on to being good. |

There are a ton of different ways to construct a team and you can't do it by just tanking and drafting top picks every year(see Edmonton). The draft can be useful especially if you are drafting top 10, but you have to be able to have a good mix of players that can complement each other and play various rolls. |
