Thanks for making me wait this out Gorton....9 days to go - TPC

Not short sited at all. He's still a RFA & then he can be locked up long term just like Winnipeg just did with Scheifele. Makes total sense to me. I bridge every contract & use the leverage I have to do so.
I even like how Subban's deal worked out in Montreal & had Molsons not forced Bergevin to sign Subban he would have been had cheaper of his long term deal. As it is the 2 contracts combined averages out to essentially 7 for 10. He got locked up 2 years longer.
Do you want Miller to be a UFA at a young age; on a 4,5 6 year deal, your not locking him up for 8 today, like Stamkos poetntially was, Rielly; Tor, or Krug will be for their respective teams? I certainly don't. That gives the player a ton of leverage & salary demands.
Shattenkirk has StLouis or any other team he's traded to over a barrel. You can give him the term & money he wants or someone else who's desperate will. Or how about the Hoffman situation? That's brutal asset management. |

Scheifele may have signed a below market deal but still got $49 mil over eight years. Also, his original deal was two years and he had played just 11 games in the NHL in those two seasons. Scheifele second deal, which was for three years, had several performance bonuses, so he made $1.56 mil each of those years. In this case, Miller is coming off a strong season and has a bit more experience, so why not lock him up longer now rather than having to pay more down the road?

The fear here like Jan said of course is JT really putting up great numbers (I mean I would like that lol) & than demanding a HUGE payday or turn Unrestricted. |

Yep it's a risk. I wonder if they are trying to save some money by doing a bridge deal so they can go after another fish...perhaps a shattenkirk? Nah that would mean gorton has to leave the Applebee's |
