Unless bigras make the top 4 out of camp, do you think he starts in San Antonio getting top 2 minutes and I think the line will start like this...
Ej-zads
Barrie- tyutin
Gelly-weirco
Siemens (though I think he will see action, I hoping he impresses and becomes a mainstay)

I can see that I'd rather him log big minutes down in the A then be a scratch in and out of the lineup with Gelly, weircoch and not get the proper development |

What's best for him? I would say top line with ej, but for zads development he might be best suited with him. Then do you consider weircoch on top line with ej?
Ej-weircoch
Barrie-tyutin
Beau-zads
Left with gelly/seimens
Though barrie and ej will get most of pp time and short handed time.
Then next year have
Ej-weircoch/bigras
Barrie-zads
Beau- gelly/Siemens( whoever is best) |

I wouldnt be shocked to see the starting pairs as.
EJ - Zads
Barrie - Tyutin
Beauch - Weircoich
Siemens - Gelinas
However I really want to see Barrie Weircoich at some point since they were so good together at the world championships 2 years ago, just worry about how slow a 3rd pairing of Tyutin Beauch would be.

People are too hard on Beauch. He played fantastic for us all year he was just forced to play WAAAY too much ice time and it really wore on him as the season went on. He'd be fine on the 2nd pairing or even on the 1st if Roy manages to spread out the minutes more now that the D is more filled out than it has been in previous seasons.
I know the Avs really liked putting Zads with Beauch as a mentor to help his development so it wouldn't surprise me to see him with either him or Tyutin(sp?) and keep Barrie with Gelinas at the start of the year. Depending on how Bigras develops I could see him eventually playing with EJ or Barrie. |

I'm glad they are giving Siemens one more shot to prove himself! - Icecold088
Its been unfortunate that his injuries have set him back so much but ~20 points in the AHL over about 160 games isn't exactly being unfairly trapped in the NHL. Its not like he is some top 4 guy who the Avs are treating unfairly, he is just developing very slowly (which isn't the most uncommon thing, see players like Muzzin and Boychuk.)
Avs will give the kid every chance, its just up to him if he will ever become and NHL player or not. |

they just cant have him playing Top pairing minutes with EJ for the vast majorty of the year. I wouldnt mind seeing to start the year as
Beauch - EJ
Weircoich/Gelinas - Barrie
Zads - Tyutin
Let the new guys get their feet wet, especially Zads, then after 20 games or so, go with

Yes agreed. Keep Beau on 5v5. Let barrie and ej eat up the minutes. Tyutin and zads is interesting cause I see zads as a shut down d guy with 20 to 30 points a year in him. He would learn a lot from him. I do see bigras in the big club at some point. I think gelly, Siemens and weircoch are playing for spots next year on the third line with weircoch cracking the top 4.
To start I think we go with best possible lines we can. Need that fast start. 10-10-0 in our first 20 is not good enough.
Ej-Beau
Weircoch barrie
Tyutin- (Siemens, gelly, zads)
Then as the season goes on we will know what we have 8n gelly, Siemens and zads (I think zads will be give more of an opportunity than the others) and hopefully I turns into
Ej zads

Yeah I agree he hasn't produced much at the Ahl level either in the points department but he's more of a shutdown guy like you said! It's up to him, hopefully if they give him the chance hopefully he takes it and runs with it! |

Im excited about this Dcore...just think last year Holden was a fixture on the blue line and the team had to deal with 7th/8th guys like Stuart, Redmond Guenin...with Bodnachuk(dont care about spelling his name right).
This year its Siemens, Bigras, Weiroich, Gelinas as they guys fighting for spots and the depth call ups.
First time in the Sakic Roy era they have a legit respectable NHL caliber D core

Bsn was saying the same thing! We actually have people fighting for spots, prospects coming in, solid vet leadership in Beau and tyutin and there are really no plug and hope for the best players. I'm excited to see how these guys with the new coach can help this team win!

I think that's the plan once we find out what Grigo and Barrie's arb hearings are done I think we use the little we'll have left to go after one of the depth wingers left in Ufa on a bargain 1 year deal! |

As long as he is around 20 thats fine, and if the Avs have Barrie and Zads all on different lines then it shouldn't be an issue. It would even be fine to start him there and then transition him to the 2nd or 3rd as the young guys get more comfortable. |

Your depth chart is wonky as hell lol. Weircoch is a 7th dman at best and Siemens is very unlikely to be in the NHL at the start of the year. Think of Weircoch as redmond with a bit more size, hes a reclamation project.
Really only thing up in the air is if Bigras starts the year on the Avs or not. If he does then Tyutin is our 6th with Gelinas as our 7th and if not then bump the other two up a notch. |

Someone like Pirri or a pipe dream like Vesey would go a long way. A lot of it depends on Colborne though. If he works really well on the wing with Duchene then they may go 3 spread out lines, if he works best as a 3c then we could see Duchene put on a line with Nate and Soderberg moved up as the 2c.
The Avs forward group has a lot of flexibility but another winger would be nice. They might have to wait and see what they have to work with after the Grigs and Barrie arbs. |

I don't disagree but I don't agree either. I look at it like this...
Ej and barrie are our top 2 guys. They'll play big minutes. PP and PK. Then we have Beau and Tyutin as seasoned vets with Beau being a guy who can play all situations but not 25 mind a night, Tyutin a shut down d guy. Who does it well by all accounts. Which leaves zads, Weircoch and gelly. Bigras I think will be ahl bound and play big minutes with Siemens being the 8th d up here but it wouldn't shock me to see him getting sent down. I think Weircoch is the best if the 3 Hensel why I see him possibly cracking the top 4 with barrie. Then zads because he is NHL ready buto needs games and time here to develop. With gelly being more of a filler. But note I don't know really what to expect from him except a wicked slap shot.
I agree with another winger. But that will have to wait till the arbitration hearings are done. It is possible we go over salary with the 2 contracts? I like the idea of pirri. A d the possibility of Dutch with Colburn! |

Personally I have Colborne as the 3C. My ideal lines would be
Grigo Mack Dutch
Landy Soderberg Rant
Comeau Colborne Iggy
McLeod Mitchell Martinsen
Compher (would like to see him at 4C though)
I think thats the most balanced roster that the team can do, however would liek to add Pirri or Versteeg for the bottom 6, especially if they can move mitchell so they can move Compher to 4C. |

I dont think its too crazy thought, Weircoich and Barrie played so well together at the World Championships 2 years ago so I think they would explore that pairing at some point in the season.
I do see Siemens making the team as he requires waivers to go down to the AHL, in my mind the team wouldnt have qualified him if they dont think he can be the 8th dman on the team. I dont think they want to risk losing him for free.
Bigras probably will start in the AHL, just based on current 1 way deals and waiver exception, however he wont be down there for long. First injury and hes called up |

I don't mind that. I would love to see compher make the club either as a 4c or a 3rd line winger... but I'm starting to lean towards him in San Antonio because the jump from 40 odd games to 82 games might hinder him come January and I would like to see him get to 6 minutes. You think natel might Crack that 4c spot? That would be my super dark horse to make the club |

I'm not sure Nantel will be able to crack the team especially with compher also batelling for a centre spot! My dark horse to make the team is Greer which would fill our other winger spot we are looking for! |

Compher is the only rookie fwd I could see the team adding to the big club out of camp.
Was talking about it last night with some buddies, but we were wondering could the Avs dump Mitchell to the Wild for Schroeder. Apparently they waived him bc they werent happy that he filed arbitration.
He would be cheaper that Mitchell and would be a small speedy guy to play C or the RW.
Highly unlikely the Avs and Wild make a trade but that would really help the Avs cap cap situation if they can shed up to 900k in that move |
