Would it be possible to get some original articles on here. Its always just reposted from an article I read 3 days ago. I dont even care if its opinionated just somethinf interesting to read and provoke some thought. Its only ever regurgitated articles followed by 20 sour fans playing arm chair GM. Holland isnt the best or even great lately but we arent fans of the Hurricanes so we dont need to always act like it. Won a cup within the last 10 years lol regardless of what we think or dont think I for one like to be excited heading into the season...if you all wanna continue being negative and depressing go ahead id just like something interesting to read at least for once

There really is a disappointing amount of regurgitated mlive articles
I agree too. I would hold original and thought provoking content in very high regard.
And yes, we know cleary had a deal. But pay the guy to do front office work or something. Not take up one of the professional roster contracts. I guess I'm a downer but spending 7+ million on our 4th line of what should be helm, glendenning and Miller doesn't seem like the best move. I think I've read that no player over 1000 minutes the past few seasons has been less productive than Miller. And the possession numbers of these guys...lol!
There is no evidence but third party hearsay for that. Don't spew bloggers remarks - RafiDRW
That's not true. It has been in evidence that the Red Wings would be guilty of Salary Cap circumvention had they hired Cleary to work in an office based on discussions between the two parties. Just because you didn't know, does not mean that team officials and league officials didn't know. It was a mistake to even make these promises, but based on the outcome, it didn't affect anything negatively. In fact his minor league services are worth more than most would suggest or admit.

The Wings have hired multiple former players right after they retired so your comment is just flat out stupid. Plus it was quite obvious what they did was a handshake deal, with just no proof of it. Good thing Holland is so old he can't text.
As for Miller and Luke's awful possession numbers, I think it is because they spend about 95% of the game in the defensive zone. I'm more worried about them preventing good opportunities against the top line rather than them scoring vs a bottom line.
You are allowed to hire recently retired players to your front office (obviously, since the Wings have done it repeatedly), but I'm 99% sure (would look it up myself if I weren't at work) the CBA mandates that the team cannot pay him more than what would be normal / reasonable for any other front office employee in the same position -- or in other words, you can give him maybe $70k or so to be "special assistant to the GM," but not "make him whole" money.
Also, regarding that handshake deal, here's Paragraph 19 of the standard player's contract.
The Club and the Player represent and warrant that there are no undisclosed agreements of any kind, express or implied, oral or written and that there are no promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements, assurances of intent, supplements or understandings of any kind between the Player or his Certified Agent and the Club that have not been disclosed to the NHL, with regard to: (i) any consideration of any kind to be paid, furnished or made available during the term of the SPC or thereafter; and/or (ii) and future renegotiation, extension, amendment or termination of this SPC.
... which would seem to indicate that a "handshake deal" between Holland and Cleary over some guaranteed number of years of money after an initial contract is on shaky ground at best.

I started the cleary business. But you're right. Quincey über alles - datswho
I found out why Holland gave Helm that big long contract...he thought Helm developed some hands and offensive hockey sense but after the contract realised that he confused Helm with Athanasiou
These are the kind of ppl that comment on here...oh boy. Can't even handle a counter argument of factsm just wa na sit here xomplaining about something for a few years ago that didnt even affect the team and actually has been positive...but keep whining man lol

Wings fans or trolls seem to want to turn every thread into either Cleary or how Ericsson sucks... It's getting old.
Shouldn't we be discussing Holmstrom? I was hoping to get a chance to see him play this year (as a callup), or hear about how he was going to do in the AHL. He had a great playoffs over in Sweden last year if I recall correctly.

Why would you quote me in your "lol"-filled rant when I'm constantly trying to get everyone to settle down? I didn't bring up Cleary in this board.

I think Holmstrom will be eerily similar to the Tomas of past Championship teams.
A quicker and more fluid skater, for sure, but my lord #96 had ridiculously underrated skills. So many are quick to say how annoying and elite he was at agitating goalies... His ability to deflect pucks may be second to none in hockey history. He and Lidstrom had twin-like speech-less communication. He maintained puck possession with the Euro Twins with ease.
Interesting how the new Holmstrom is also assigned #96...
His work ethic is elite and he is an all-terrain forward. Could easily be a net-front presence like Swedes before him (Homer, Mule, Hornqvist). Before he even plays in NA, I think his ceiling is around a 30G/60PT type of center/winger. Probably a consistent 20G/40PT guy for a decade. Even if he doesn't reach those numbers he could be a Filppula-type 3rd liner that puts up 30 points with stellar defensive play.

If he can be anything close to Tomas, he's a great find with a later draft pick. Even if Tomas wasn't deflecting the puck or getting the rebound, he still changed the PP . You had to get him out of the crease, which wasnt an easy task.
I tought Johan Ryno could of replaced him. I remember watching him at a few World Junior game and tought he was great. He never panned out.

I don't really complain too much honestly. Had been several beers in at my buddy's pool at that moment.
