Moulson will play wing over Girgensons on the 3rd line.

I've grown to like the idea of trying to get another very good center.

Tyler Johnson

- sbroads24

Tough to see how Tampa keeps all their guys,
But I also can't see them moving him either
Do they have someone coming up to replace him?
I really thought that Killorn &/or Palat were gonna be the guys left out

Maybe they're banking on somehow moving Filppula & Vegas taking Callahan

If we can't get Johnson, or another good young center...
What about moving Reinhart back?

We've got Nylander, Bailey & Fasching coming up on the wings to help fill in the gaps

Has Nylander signed a contract yet?

Fasching will be at least a year before he is ready for 3rd line duties i would think. and bailey is at this point a 3rd at best too..

I would be fine with moving rhineheart to center

Saying I don't want him in my top 6 isn't hammering. I've said multiple times I'd like him in the bottom 6. That said he needs to accept his role or he won't have one here. It's the same thing I say about Foligno. If Foligno accepts that he's a 4th liner he can be fine. If he tries getting too fancy offensively and stops doing what got him here in the first place he won't have a place on the team.
- Zschalberg

Yep, I think we agree but we just came to the same destination on different roads.

You're right about Foligno too and imo Foligno agrees that he's proven nothing by way of accepting the contract he did.

On Girgs, reading between the lines you can interpret the things we hear about him not wanting to be here as (1) an ambitious young player wanting a bigger role or (2) an immature, malcontent, whiner. I prefer to think he is competitive and wants the bigger role as he sure seems to have drive on the ice. On the flip side, Foligno disappears and looks like he is comfortable being able to say he is the 3rd best hockey player within his family. To me, complacent Bottom 6 guy (Foligno) is way more replaceable than a heart and soul Top 9 guy (Girgs).

I think Girgs would be a main piece going to TB for Johnson if that pipedream ever happened

Pitt's main player on their "3rd" line was a winger, Kessel
but we could consider moving Reinhart back to center
Get the "pairs" that we hear Bylsma talk about, and then fill in with a guy that can find chemistry with them
Vesey-Eichel-???
???-O'Reilly-Okposo
Kane-Reinheart-???

That presumably leaves Ennis & Girgensons to fill in 2 of the blanks
Moulson (for now) is likely the 3rd, unless Foligno, Gionta or Larsson are moved into one of those slots

But we've also got Bailey, Nylander & Fasching who could all be ready by next year or earlier

Of course, our young guys aren't at Crosby/Malkin level yet
But it also doesn't mean we can't roll 3 lines that can score either
We won't be ready to compete for the Cup,
But playoffs this year are a reasonable goal/expectation

- jdfitz77

As it stands now, since we don't have Vesey and I don't think we should have any expectations that he signs here, we should keep together what works.

Kane-O'Reilly-Okposo
Moulson-Eichel-Reinhart
Girgensons-Ennis-Bailey
Foligno-Larsson-Gionta

It's not the same 3 line approach but that 3rd line isn't full of plugs either. I think Ennis away from Eichel is better just because of how they play. I'd also consider switching Kane and Moulson since Kane and Eichel had chemistry at times and Moulson and Okposo together as well but I know some don't like that.

IF we get Vesey I still don't really want Reinhart back to center. He's done really well on the wing and I just don't want to mess with that.

Based on what I've seen, I think Bailey is the first call up for injury. I liked Fasching last year but certainly wasn't impressed at the Dev Camp Scrimmage. I would think he needs to have a really nice training camp/pre-season to be the first call up.

I don't think Carrier is up unless they're in a real pinch and I think Nylander goes back across the pond.

B
A
D
C

In that order...

Nylander is a wild card though. He might get his 9 games, he might stick who knows. Carrier probably doesn't see the NHL this season but he might. Bailey looks ready, Fasching has the NHL body but isn't ready just yet.

I'd have to guess Bailey based on Dev Camp

Yes, Nylander did sign his ELC
He's likely in Rochester this year, along with Bailey & Fasching
I was more talking going forward
And if we have our "pairs" set & producing, we don't need Bailey, Fasching, Girgensons, etc to be a "1st line" type guy to play with Eichel necessarily.
I know some didn't like Girgensons with Jack & Sam, but the line did produce well together... Or maybe it's Bailey that can find chemistry with Jack & (hopefully) Vesey

Regardless,
We have some differ t options to choose from whichever way we go

I actually like the idea of a line of Kane/Girgs/Bailey

That's a fast line that can wear teams out and also has some semblance of skill

What if Ennis or Reinhart centered those 2?
I think Reinhart can make ppl around him better
With him at center, those wingers likely score more than if it's Girgs setting them up
