The guys running the team care.... I agree Tanev isn't the ideal top pairing guy and that Sbisa was a bit better last year but no way in hell is that going to be a competitive lineup. - belcherbd
Could easily be a smoke screen too. Easier to sell tickets that way. And competitive is still a very vague reference as to what they expect. They haven't come out and said anything more than being competitive. |

Do not speak badly of tanev ....
I think sbisa did have a better year last but I'm not sure if the year prior he was that awful or just had a terrible series in the playoffs that left everyone hating on him more than necessary
That D core doesn't look that good right now but if Hutton can avoid the sophomore slump and EG lives up to expectations it might not be too bad - Redmile247
He has and likely will always be bad in relation to his salary. I also think he looked especially bad playing his offside and out of place when playing top 4 minutes. He's fine as a bottom pairing guy. |

Last year they said they expected be better than the 101 point team the year prior and I'm pretty sure they have said that they expect to be a playoff team. |

Fair enough but I disagree that's it's not a competitive lineup at least. Edler isn't the glue that revolves around competitiveness. |

Whatever Bettman wants. A CDN team will not win the cup while Bettman is in power. |

I just can't see Edler waiving NTC. May as well get use to it.

Markstrom 3 years
Rodin 1 year.
Edler 3 years.

Is it true that there is a stipulation by the league that the team name can't have any corellation or association with gambling? I think the Las Vegas Aces would be a good name and one that doesn't necessarily have any significant connotation with gambling, seeing as the word 'Ace' is multi-dimensional. Of course the league is a stickler when it comes to these types of policy edicts, so unlikely they would allow it |

Kinda strange that they don't have a name by now ... had a lot of time to think of one didn't they ? - Redmile247
I thought the owner liked Black Aces, but had concerns about the PR around that...especially in light of all the BLM business of late. |

The league should seriously give its head a shake if they are going to put a team in the gambling capital of the world and then not allow the name to have anything to do with gambling ...but then again I really shouldn't be surprised with this regime |

I could be wrong, but i sensed that it had more to do with black aces, rather than just the aces.
But i agree, it still seems overly PC.
But hey we support a team called the All Blacks here without issue. |

Political correctness is ruing North America. When a comedian can't make a joke without getting sued it is a problem. Comedians make jokes. While a joke may be over the line or in poor taste its still a joke. Everything a person says is a trigger word. |

and of course the most famous of all canadian bands in history...ever....RUSH. And the most consistent band of all time HITS wise. A #1 hit off of each release. No other band has done so.

You could be right but I think it is solely based on the league wanting to stay away from gambling ...apparently the nfl is not what they would like to copy ...a lot of revenue lost taking that route though |

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Host 2 Tragically Hip's Shows at Rogers Arena on Sun/Tues
The hockey arena gets a dose of a different kind of Canadiana as the Tragically Hip rolls into town for its last two shows at Rogers Arena on Sunday and Tuesday. - Carol Schram
Thank you Carol for your continued great articles. Has made the summer fly by.
Was lucky enough to see Gord preform solo at our local "Roots and Blues" festival. Not quite the Hip, but the heart of the Hip. Up to Here and Full Completely are two albums that I can listen from back to front, and enjoy every song..... My all time favorite Hip tune is.......
https://youtu.be/9-WBZMRFFkU
I have the most INSANE trade idea. None.
Hear me out, because I don't actually mean make no trades, but it would be cool to see what we got on the ice for the first week/month.....Who knows what Rodin and Larsen will bring? Will we have another possible Hutton out of training camp? How are the new faces going to integrate? Whats the chemistry going to be like? IMO answering a few of those questions might make who we should get rid of a bit easier.
Who am I kidding? Too logical. Horvat, Tanev and a first for Cam Barker cuz yeah. |

My brother and I are both in Vancouver for the show tonight. He's from Creston, I live in Oliver now.
We've been reminiscing over beers all afternoon. The highlight for both of us is still the 1st Roadside Attraction tour at Seabird Island in 93.
I've been to well over 100 shows since, but that is the best overall concert experience of my life.
I even managed to lose my virginity in the back of a minivan after the show, as we waited for thousands of vehicles to leave the field where we were all parked via the single road out of there. Thanks logistical wizards who came up with that plan.
Good times...
Tonight will be very bittersweet. |

AFter reading this blog last night, i ended up going down a rabbit hole of Hip and other Canadiana that, combined with a couple whiskey's left me feeling ultra-emo.
Enjoy the show. Wish I could be there and be apart of that energy.

Agreed. I haven't posted because the comments section is a real drag, but the blogs have been consistently good all summer. The Day for Night album played in our house 24/7 in '94/'95, along with each of the albums before and after in their own time.
Thanks Carol, keep up the good work. - 1970vintage
Nice to see you posting!! I've missed your even keeled demeanor and biting sarcasm as well as craft beer tasting notes.
