Shattenkirk to NYR seems to be the hot rumor atm and nothing would surprise me with the Rags, they could pull that off, especially if they retain some of Nash's salary.
Murray spoke very highly about Nylander getting a good shot at making the roster. - mhp
Nylander will still have his chance even if we got both Nash and Vessey. I just don't expect him to make good on that chance. I don't think he's all that good that he's going straight into the NHL. I'd rather not rush him |

Remember the beginning of the off-season where people were talking about offer sheets and how they'll finally be done this year?
Those were good times. Offer sheets don't happen. They just don't. - Zschalberg
A fabled idea that comes from the same tree as the so called hometown discount.
I think Gerbe was the only one calling for it . |

Technically you don't really know that, all you know is no players have signed one yet. |

They don't happen and it's not because of the fear of getting poached later. It's simply the fact that, in order to get a player to sign an offer sheet that the other team won't match, you have to exceed market value by a considerable margin. Otherwise, you're simply doing the negotiating for the team with his rights. |

I wasn't going to name drop. But we all have the same conversations each year and each year nothing happens. I'd like to see after the next lockout the compensation values decrease a bit to maybe try to point GMs in that direction. I think it's good for the game. |

I won't say they never happen because of the very reason you mentioned. I think the one scenario in which an offer sheet would be successful is when the team delivering the offer sheet sees far more value in the player than the team receiving it.
Girgensons may be a decent example here. If a team saw Girgensons as a potential top 6 forward (I know I know just work with me here) because of his play in the past and his draft status then an offer sheet at say 4 and 3.7 mil a year wouldn't be so bad, you only give up a 2nd rounder in that scenario. If the sabres didn't view him as highly, it's unlikely that they would match that. Not because they think he's only worth a 2nd rounder but because you don't want to be paying a guy you see in your bottom 6 long term 3.7 mil a year.
The likelihood of all of this happening is minimal as those kinds of players are usually just traded before July 1 but I won't go as far as saying it will never happen. |

Agreed, but you're still offering well above market value for him in this case. That's the only way you make a successful offer sheet.

I agree. Would make July 1st even more interesting knowing that you could see 5 or so offer sheets out there. |

The lockout is a topic that we haven't beaten to death yet. How long do we think this one will be? Will it take up none of the season, half the season, full season, more?
I'd say another half of a season. |

...Maybe. It's below market value if you believe the player you're getting is a top 6 forward. |

Good example is Jacob Trouba. Other teams could view him as a potential 1, WPG already has there 1 signed long term.

I think none of a season. Both parties seem to be happy with the way it's moving along. But I'm sure there will be some items that could cause some friction. Concessions would be one . No one likes to have things taken away. |

Never bothered to look because I never really cared, but now I'm curious...how did you win this? - buffalofan19
ek had a challenge
listed 20 head to head match ups, you had to pick the player that would score more goals this year from the 2
if you challenged him, you win a season ticket or donate $20 to cancer research if you lose
the ape won the contest with 17 right out of 20
5 of us got 16 right
ek got like 7 right |

Agreed. Also helps that WPG arent really big on handing out those long term deals and the speculation that for whatever reason they aren't as high on him. |

The combination of the elevated celery and multiple first round draft picks makes the offer sheet a non-started. I am always amazed when it comes up here as it never happens in real life.
