No doubt he has credentials but should his first shot at GM be for a team in a critical stage in their franchise history? Transitioning this team from the twins will be a really tough job.
If they resign the twins then you know they have no plan at this point in time to address this. - bloatedmosquito
Has a new gm ever been hired when a team's not at a critical stage in franchise history? |

I agree, who were those 2 legit prospects out of curiosity? Bo and shink? Hutton ? Markstrom? Corrado? - belcherbd
Bo and Hutton....obviously Hutton came out of no where but he was a great pick. I was never high on Shink. |

It's so hard to predict. Our top line C was an ironman for close to a decade, and much like BMo since he missed that 1st game has been seemingly injured often since. Even if he plays a full season, I don't have a whole bunch of faith that he'll do it near full health due to his age.
Add in the fact that one of our goalies, top wingers, and top D are also aging/and or injury prone and I could see us finishing either in a wild card spot if we remain healthy or right near or at the bottom if we don't. - golfingsince
I disagree that our top D is aging. Edler is 30. End of his prime perhaps but not necessarily aging. Everyone else is 26 or younger. Don't feel that's a fair statement or excuse. The big thing I take away from adding Gudbranson regardless of what he becomes or is, Edler will not get pushed as hard. I feel Gudbranson will end up eating a ton of minutes to help ease Edler and hopefully that shows by less injuries. Time will tell but that's my take.
I agree with everything else. However, this year is a big one in terms of the future. Hopefully we can see guys step up outside of the Sedins. If that doesn't happen we won't be any better the following year. |

It was supposed to read as one of our top D is injury prone, being Edler. Daniel is aging, has had a few injuries as well. Miller is both. Also, not sure Tanev can hold up for a full season.
I'll be happy if some other D can take some minutes away from Edler, which should both make him more effective and less susceptible to injury. However, we sure are banking on a bunch of youth to either make a difference or at least hold their own in order for that to happen.
Again, a bunch of things have to go right for the team to make the playoffs. If the dominoes fall the wrong way, we could be looking at another bottom 5 finish. |

Boeser will be here next year so one less piece of poop to worry about - VANTEL
Maybe even as early as this season. Late in the year when or if his College team finishes up and the Canucks are still going. He could turn pro and get a few games in. Maybe a playoff game?
I recall being dt at the Pint for the Canucks last reg season game vs EDM. Boeser was playing the Frozen Four Final that same night.
So, barring another UND run, we could see Boeser next season. less than 9 games would be ideal. |

Jost joining UND will help. Idk if UND takes a step back.
Great facilities & a good program they have.
If Boeser were available Utica prolly makes more sense if signed. |

I agree. It's a huge gamble to a degree on where we end up. I do not care whether we make the playoffs or not regardless of my trade proposals or any other things I may have said previously. I do, however, believe it's a much larger possibility than some believe it to be. I really just want to see better hockey. See the young kids get more opportunities and develop. I've always been on the draft and develop train and I think it will be the only way we move forward.
That being said, I want to see WD adapt better than he did last year. I believe the depth is better than last year even if it is in players that may or may not make an impact. It's his job to find their potential and find a way to tap into it. Play to their strengths. It's why I had a hunch JV started in Utica. Our top 6 would be better with him but if WD doesn't give him opportunities than I feel Utica is the better option.
I just want to be entertained. Winning is great but sometimes losing can also be great as long as they, including everyone in the organization, does whatever they can to move forward and try to win. I stopped watching too many games last season because of how embarrassing it was to watch. I've been through rough times before but it was awful.
I only have high hopes by playing better as a team and I think that will change for the better. If we finish near the bottom that's fine but drafting has never been about where you draft, it's about how well you can draft with lower picks. Where we finish shouldn't define how the rebuild or retooling works out. Some would argue you need a couple top 3 picks but that doesn't mean the rest don't matter at all.
It will be an interesting year to see where we end up. One more year and one more draft and I feel it will take a much clearer shape.

With Hutton moving up the depth chart a bit and Gudbranson here I can see them eating a bit of Tanev/Edler's minutes. So like you said hopefully that will help Tanev/Edler away from the injury path. Which will be a huge positive for us. |

Linden said the other day he has seen Bo in the gym a few times and he looks like a truck now.
We know how Edler and Tanev play , the question is how will the rest do? Gudbrandson will add stay at home, toughness and keep in front of the net clean. He should influence Tryamkins game greatly. He will show him how a big man plays.
If Tryamkin can learn to use his size and play a similar game that is the ace in the hole. Is Tryamkin an Ahlberts clone or is he going to be closer to a Chara type? We will either have one hell of a player or a gaping hole.
Sven said at the beginning of last year he had no confidence. He didn't know if he could play in the NHL. He said he is excited to get back now and prove.
This year Canucks have built competition for spots. If you take nights off you could lose your spot. This is going to be a very exciting year and I think you will see a clearer direction of how the team is heading. Even as we discuss every day, Canucks are looking for that gritty top 6 forward. |

All fair points. Last season couldn't end soon enough and now this one can't start soon enough.

I hope there's no acquisition of Kane.
He doesn't have legal problem or problems with the law - he has character problems and is a troubled human being that the authorities are catching up with. No team needs a guy like this.

I sure hope Bo scores in the 20-23 goal range and over 50 PTs. I do feel he is a number one center who will score around 25 a year once he gets comfortable.
I think Sutter can handle number two spot until we find a better answer. |

Fans deserve a competitive product and playoffs should always be the goal. We will likely be in the hunt for a playoff spot this year but we won't be a contender for a awhile. The new regime inherited an organization with 2 legitimate prospects. They aren't miracle workers and patience is needed - CanuckDon
Agree comletely! But....building a competitive product in this case could take some time considering two things 1) the shape the franchise was in when Benning arrived 2) when the Sedins retire.

I'm not a proponent of tanking but this is just false!! Drafting high brings you good players. Losing brought the Nucks Virtanen, and Juolevi, and Linden, and the Sedins, and Nedved, etc.
Ask Chicago, Toews & Kane, Pittsburgh, Crosby & Malkin, LA, Doughty, - those guys are a big reason why their teams have won the last five Cups in a row. |

I think Bo is already better than Sutter, offensively anyways, which makes him IMO a better second line center. |

guy is alleged to have put his hands around women's throats and pulled on their hair. could end up being Voynov part2 and end up playing in Russsa |

I'd like to see JB make a trade with Detroit. Tatar, though small, would make for a great 2nd line LW and Detroit needs to do something soon when you consider their cap issues and the players they will have to leave unprotected at expansion.
Also, if we are set on size and grit, Abdelkader could also make a good fit, as he is one of the players that could potentially be left unprotected. |

What do you think Tatar costs ?
I could see Detroit moving a lesser piece(s) to accommodate cap issues |
