Do they still get the cap credit? - winsix
That's just how I think it'll work.
I imagine it'll work just like a regular buyout, so whatever cap hit/savings they would normally have gotten. |

An unknown variable too is Rielly himself. He's still developing. Does he have some all star 1D years in him? That changes things. Do we still need a D that is better than Rielly will be, or not? |

This whole Robidas Island thing is fun to talk about, but really, doesn't he have a legit degenerative injury, which Lupul doesn't? The Leafs can't actually just yadda yadda yadda their way out of cap hits like that. There isn't really a Robidas Island. |

I hate JVR, too soft for such a big guy. But the NHL is all about skill now, there is now way I dont see what He and Matthews and whoever slides in as the 3rd can do. That could be a deadly threat. I just like my big net guys to not be pussies but thats the new NHL |

Probably gonna make breakfast for dinner. Pancakes, bacon, eggs. Some fruit and tomatoes. (frank) it, coffee too. I'm (frank)ing loving this plan. TITS |

Much more pain is to come but the future is getting brighter.
I simply think if a top D could be had at fair price i would do it.
Going forward it will benefit the Leafs better in the long run.
Add 1 D & it looks good dealing with the rest of the lineup. - Nighthawk
Fowler is not a top pairing dman. He's a number 3 at best. Then we are still in the same position with no one to play with rielly. |

You probably have no soul if you don't like pancakes but toast is good too. Waffles also rule. |

Your answer is nonsense - the correct response would be that there are perhaps 12 to 16 LW in the NHL that could be considered better than JVR.
In contrast there are likely 40 d-man plus that are superior to Fowler. - winsix
There is one part you are forgetting in your mathematical analysis....every team carries 6-7 NHL defensemen and only 4 left wingers. Following your mathematical approach, a 16th rated LW is rated the same as the 26th rated dman. (6.5 / 4 * 16)
Then you have to figure in ease of replacement. I don't have any math for that, but I figure that a top 2 dman is tougher to find than a top 2 left winger by at least 50%, so add 50% on to the 26th dman and you get 39th.
By my equation, I think the 16th rated LW is as valuable as the 39th dman.
I am not saying that this should be the path that anyone takes....as a fan I would way rather have JVR, BUT if math matters, then you need to rethink your formula.
Lastly, Fowler is overrated. Severely. I wouldn't do the trade, not for one second....however, Hampus Limdholm is another story.
That kid would have been worth Hall ++
Because he hasn't signed my guess is that he wants Ekblad money. Anaheim won't pay him that money.
Anyone that needs a dman should be on the horn with Anaheim every single day. No brainer. |

I totally agree with you. We would need a 1-2 dman and JVR isn't going to get you that without a big addition in trade. Not sayin JVR isn't any good but not equal value for a top dman |

It's not as hard to find a number 2 guy as a number 1 guy. We may have a number 1 in rielly. I think we wait and see if zaitsev VaLiev dermott Nielsen or any of out more recent picks turn into anything. Guys like stralman Josi muzzin klinberg weren't top 10 picks just took the proper time to develop. |
