Unfortunately in a salary cap world you almost have to hit bottom before you can build a championship team (Chicago not included), maintaining the status quo only works for so long before you have to send off the expensive stars for younger and cheaper. - justmike
3rd worst team then 5th worst team leading up to the Kane draft (05/06 and 06/07) - not exactly stellar teams |

He apparently tried trading for him or helped tried to trade for him in Ottawa. Kane as a player is fine. He was just never worth what they gave up. But whatevs.. - sbroads24
Assuming he didn't like Myers, and as I think was stated in the past that he really liked both Bagosian and Kane, then all he lost was a d-man he didn't like, an FA to be that was never consistent, a player that wasn't going to sign an ELC with the team, plus whatever other pieces there were.
In his mind he didn't really lose anything I think.
Edit: derp..how could I forget Armia (not sarcastically, since I did have hopes for him at the time), but the other piece was a 1st. So he gave up 1 contracted player, an FA-to-be, a non-signing guy, Armia and a late first. |

I wasn't aware of that but it kinda makes sense i suppose,
I mean if it worked out and Kane came in here and scored buckets of goals and kept his nose semi clean he could say he made out really well.... if not well that trade still helped us ensure a top 2 pick in the best draft in a decade and got us a piece perhaps the piece to long term competitiveness.
So even if we trade Kane for a 2nd and a whatever or, however it shakes out.. we're still moving forward, we're still climbing in the right direction we're still better off than we were previous year. |

Just read an interesting theory.
Rey is Palpatines granddaughter.............
They are the only 2 force users to use the forward thrust...........
Ren knew her because he trained with her under Luke.
Luke hid her and vanished. - dadeadhead
They leaked the script so that theory is out the door |

I don't call it a skill, but it is strategic and intelligent in the case of the '15 season. Stanley Cup teams are usually led by a Jack Eichel type player. If Murray doesn't shamelessly tank that season away, trading goalies who are playing well, trading for injured players, etc, we don't finish last. He was willing to go farther than any other GM to secure Eichel.
IMO, Eichel is not a Sabre if Darcy or just about any other GM was in control that year. - Deuce81
I'm not a Darcy fan, but why would you think that? Tanking was the plan and his team finished last to get Reinhart |

Opinions vary.
I think, and I don't want to take credit for the theory since someone else posted it a while ago, that he is bringing in a backup who will only play if the team is too far away from getting Ullmark/Kransdorf to a game that a backup may be needed for. - stashu
Kasdorf has done nothing IMO to justify a back up job in NHL so far |

I don't think Darcy would have had the stones to blatantly exile goalies that were playing well, move Myers for an injured Kane, hire Nolan (tank worthy in itself), keep Pysyk down in Roch despite playing very well in limited time in Buffalo to that point, etc.
I think most GMs would be affected by the national ridicule for obvious tanking. Who else goes on radio and uses the phrase "lose properly"? It's bizarre to applaud a GM for tearing the team down in the interest of losing, but the reward was something we just had to have.
And we just BARELY got it despite all of that. If Toronto or Arizona committed themselves right at the beginning of the season we may have finished 28th. |

Keep in mind Ekblad gets a 6.5M raise after this coming season too. |

Just curious, if they make the playoffs this year will you stop saying GMTM is below average or are you just against him altogether? |

THIS. There were a few seasons where Darcy should have cut bait on the roster he had and gone for the bottom out but he never did that. |

Besides O'Reilly, not a single move has really panned out yet.
I liked this draft, but he's batting .500 at best right now. I'd say he's been a pretty average GM that gives above average sound bites - sbroads24
kind of curious as to what you all expected...
he was hired January, 2014 and proceeded to clean house...buffalo finished last in 2013-14 and he finished the team's scorched-earth rebuild the following season...included in that rebuild was trading for kane who wouldn't finish the 2014-15 season, and the team finished last again...
he snagged o'reilly and traded away an excess 1st-rounder for Lehner at the 2015 nhl draft...
murray has been looking to upgrade his blueline but has been unable to up until now and he used an excess third-rounder to talk to Vesey...
the team finished well last season and even with the team as constructed now, they look to be a playoff bubble team two full seasons after consecutive last place finishes |
