Agree for the most part I would have Willie 16-22 somewhere in there. The rankings focus too much on wins/losses and not the intangibles involved like injuries and lack of personnel.
"the Canucks' upper management has given Willie Desjardins little to work with during a tricky transitional phase for the franchise," and that "Desjardins is a strong players-first coach and he's trusted."
That quote was key in Carols blog. I'm willing to give WD the benefit of the doubt this season with a better roster and hopefully less injuries.
Enter the SMBDragon…should have a field day with this ranking...
Personally I think Lidster is a much bigger problem than WD will ever be. - LordHumungous
Lidster just does what the head coach puts into place, Desjardins is ultimately responsible for the forecheck and defensive activation, not Lidster.
Also, Doug Lidster doesn't put whomever he feels out there on special teams, that's determined by the head coach in meetings….Lidster is not on an island unto himself. |

Based too heavily on forecheck and pinching "D", the number of odd-man rushes has to be trimmed down considerably. They play more of a 2-2-1 than I'd like to see. - LeftCoaster
I do like that they are trying to be aggressive, but I agree that they face a lot of odd-man rushes likely because they become a little more predictable on the forecheck/pinching. Being a little more conservative should help reduce the scoring chances and goals against |

I don't understand how Willie can be thought that poorly as a coach. Goals against and pk are the 2 biggest coach influenced stats and the Canucks have been great in those aspects. They also had a lot of injuries and have terrible depth because of the Gillis administration's inability to draft. |

No kidding, WD was marked down because of his win-loss record apparently but McLellan is top 15 (I wont even mention Babcock, good coach but obviously being rated on different parameters than W/L) - WhiteLie

Agree 100%.
Also, Babcock is totally overrated. He's living on reputation and hasn't done jack with his NHL team since the retirement of Lidstrom.
imo, Sutter, Quennville, should be given the mantle of leading team Canada in all future competition.

But Lidster spends a lot of time with them at practice, as well as knows what WD will make his main pairings and is supposed to work with them during practice to help them play better together. During our latest playoff run, i remember hearing that the defense were not doing any special practices etc, and they fell apart and lost us the series. |

Yes he was. This year was his second year as head coach. - Scooby_Doo
......dude. When I said "Last Year" I meant the most recent season, which ended several months ago. We've turned the page. "This Year" would be this upcoming season.
It says he is a 1st year coach. He's not. This upcoming season will be his 3rd. |

And yet they'll be in the playoffs well before the leafs. Ron Francis is building something good down there. They still have holes to fill (true #1 C and true #1 G) but they will be one of the teams who can add guys before the expansion draft and set themselves up well for the following season and beyond.

They're one good shopping spree away from being a consistent playoff team, but Francis won't overspend to make someone come there.
Slow and steady, until eventually they have to trade away some of their D prospects for a forward or two. |

Interesting. Thing is that kinda thing can change really quick so that's fine. Leafs are no where near the playoffs this season but who knows what teams will look like this time next year. What kind of seasons players will have etc etc.. |

It keeps getting worse...interesting that she 7 months to come forward. Perhaps Sbisa would get a trade done - CanuckDon
This doesn't make it worse, he's already cleared of this and it's just a money grab on her part. Don't let this fool you, the bar issue is the issue. |
