NEW TOPIC NOT KANE RELATED.
World Junior summer showcase on today at 12 pm CDT time. I haven't seen rosters but is Olli going to be playing for finland? Brisebois for Canada?
Edit: Tried to google and find the rosters but nothing. My googling skills are weak though. |

No Leafs talk this morning.
Would you take a chance at signing Vermette? He would be a better 4th line C then Granlund ever will be

the only example you attempt at is a forecheck, not a defensive system.
You continue to insist there is a system used yet continually fail to identify it. If there's a system, then you identify it for us. Because many of us see no system used.
But lets face this, whatever the case....either way is unacceptable for a coaching staff. Either you're not using one or its so poor you should be shot. Either way you should go to unemployment.
There are 2 things I will agree with you on however....the inability the adjust the game on the fly. THe other is how the entire offense is centered around the sedins. While they are great players the problem with this is that if you watch games you'll see them slow the game down in the offensive zone. They'll come down the wing come over the blue line and then wait there until everyone is set in place. This also lets the opposing teams D to get set. This of course shuts down scoring. Best scoring chances are on the fly coming down the center with an element of surprise on the goalie and any present D. Slowing down the offense freezes scoring chances.
THis was AVs old system and they still use it to this day.
THis also shows no new system has been brought in offensively since that time either. - SMBDragon
High pressure doesn't just define an offense. The defense pinched a bunch trying to hold lines and force turnovers in the neutral zone. Do you even understand what a system is yourself? You seem so baffled by the idea that defense also applies pressure at the line to pinch and hold pucks in for their forwards. The same applies in all zones. Pressuring the puck carrier to force turnovers and hope they make mistakes. That was the problem. They should have done a better job at playing the lanes and not trying to force the turn overs. Poor positioning was a massive problem and it cost them a lot of goals.
A defensive system is more complicated then you make it out to be. You have multiple situations in all zones and it's not just set one way but also being able to transition from offense to defense or vice versa. The transition showed a ton of weaknesses and changes were made. The forwards play a big part in a defensive system too and how many young inexperienced kids did we have up front? How many man games compared to other teams were played by first year players? Three years or less
I'm starting to think you wouldn't know a defensive system if it hit you in the face. A big part of it is in your forwards ability to position themselves in the offensive zone to keep the puck to the outside on opposing teams break out. If you saw the amount of odd man rushes it was pretty clear how out of position players were for both forwards and defense. You can't force a player and miss or you could give up an odd man rush.
So now that I've tried to elaborate, please enlighten me oh wise one instead of being such a condescending wienerk!

Haha, not even to get into the stupidity of which teams are at the top, but funny still how every year the conference champ of one conference wins... really thinking outside the box on that one. - NewYorkNuck
There are too many problems with trying to predict a stanley cup winner 5 years from now to even list hahah but I love that they think Montreal could win a cup. So ridiculous |

That is funny, the Leafs/Jets/Flames won't make SCF before EDM i don't think. Once EDM fixes their defense they will be amazing to watch. - Retinalz
I'm with you on that. McDavid is a generational talent like Crosby where I don't think Matthews will be quite that good. I could see the Jets being really solid by 2019 with that prospect list. Leafs have a long way to go to get back to contention and the Flames just need to fill HUGE holes on their third and 4th lines to go anywhere. Gonna be awhile for them as well.
EDM is one good DMAN away from the PO's. |

No question Mathews wont be as good as McDavid, only people i ever see compare the two is other teams fans.cdavid is going to be the best forward in the league for a long time. The fact that the only holes Calgary has is on the third and fourth lines means it's a pretty good time to be a flames fan IMO. |

Botchford was just on 1040 saying Sbisa should be the #7 dman so he's advocating trading Sbisa for Hartnell because they both have poopty contracts.
Gives Benning the tough scoring winger he wants. |

I do agree that the Flames are close. It will be interesting to see if Treliving can give Gulutzan what he needs to succeed there. We saw last year what just relying on Monahan and Gudreau will do…but in their defence they have not had a decent goalie since Kipper. Elliott to me is still kind of a backup so it was also be interesting to see how he does with 60+ starts. Didn't they let Colborne and Jooris walk as well? These are the types of guys they need to keep in the lineup but I get the fact they had contracts to sign. Treliving seems pretty sharp I think he will figure something out there. |

I would say get that deal done. Hartnell is pretty consistent and it's obvious the D here directionally is moving away from Sbizza... |
