I would like to see JV grab that spot but I doubt that he is ready. I hope he is. Burrows is slow and older yes but he brings a few intangibles that JV does not. And having JV in the lineup has upside too…it just appears JV might need a tour in Utica. - LordHumungous
Burrows is coming back, "big time", ala Tuco Salamanca... |

Anyone else concerned that leadership positions within the organization ---- he who shall not be named -- as goalie coach and now this ---- are going to failed Canucks? - Beatle_john
What are your concerns with Dan Cloutier as a coach? What do you know about him as a coach, as opposed to a player? By all indications both Markstrom & Demko enjoy working with him, Cloutier pushed Markstrom last year to be better and he absolutely is now. |

FIRST sign of trouble and questions will be raised. And the first sign will be some ass-hat on Team 1040 mentioning that Demko was away from the post on some random goal and it will be the talking point all season.
And I have not heard a word about Markstrom and Demko saying they are enjoying working with him. I am not saying it is not true (I mean, what else are they going to say) but I would not be shocked if Demko had not even met him yet.
And he killed Harry Potter's Parents from the centre red line during a playoff game.
He is just a lightening rod of criticism waiting to happen. |

Better than playing in Utica. I'd rather see JV playing than Burrows. Just my take. - Marwood
Physically and talent wise Virtanen showed he belongs in the NHL, he was the best possession driver the Canucks had last year. His issues are maturity and consistency. He brings an element the Canucks sorely need, he's training hard, by all indications, a third line RW spot would be perfect for him to continue to grow as a young player. |

WOLF! So they have met..... sorry you picked the most insignificant part of my post to prove your point.
The Sky is also Falling.
Harry is being chased by a giant blind snake.
Also, don't you find it a little disingenuous to accuse me of not reading when you took that from a Photobucket account with no article? |

So the photo comes from an article about Markstrom being signed and avoiding being open to the Las Vegas expansion draft.... nothing about Demko and Voldemort.

I'm sure you know how to use google, if you really were interested you could research for yourself.
Factor in that Cloutier has already developed a relationship with Thatcher Demko, which led to the top-flight prospect's decision to sign his entry-level deal in Vancouver, and it's clear that Cloutier's an important part of the Canucks' future in goal -- maybe moreso now than when Brian Burke said the same thing 15 years ago. - See more at: http://www.vancourier.com...7981#sthash.zL1Lh2J0.dpuf

By the way, does not Thatcher Demko just sound like a character from Harry Potter? Just saying....
Yup --- read all about "Keeping the other guy" ---- none of this stops my lighten rod of controversy theory.
But to each his own... I am happy to see people defend the choice. I hope I am wrong in the long run. ('In the lloooooongggg run' --- sorry been listening the Eagles) |

That's why I say it looks to me like its him or Rodin. Burrows spot on the roster is likely inconsequential when it comes to JV making the team. We know Hansen and Eriksson will be playing the right side so it's either JV or Rodin. Unless of course Etem shats the bed in which case Rodin could be moved to LW creating a space for JV. |

Melanson will work with Demko in Utica while Cloutier will continue to work with Markstrom in Vancouver.
"Rollie Melanson was the Canucks’ goalie coach who helped build those earlier prospects into NHL netminders, although Cloutier worked extensively with Markstrom in Utica, N.Y., two seasons ago.
Interestingly, although Cloutier has mentored Demko as the Canucks’ roving goaltending instructor, Melanson will be Demko’s primary crease coach in Utica after switching jobs with Cloutier last month."

Why does he need one? He's not a player anymore! All indications are Cloutier is a good coach, if people are too stupid not to differentiate between player and coach, they'll always be stupid....you can't fix stupid! |

You're right, hard to imagine a 19 year old with a year of NHL experience to push a slow 34 year old out of a roster spot. Carry on. - Marwood
I think the coyotes just bought out a slow 34 year old to make room for a 19 year old |

Cloutier has received plenty of praise for the work he did with Jacob Markstrom in Utica two years ago. Don't forget, Markstrom had been a highly-touted prospect that had badly lost his way when he came to Vancouver in the Luongo deal. The Canucks' goalie coaches have made a player out of him.
Demko will be fine.
I have no goalie talk in the new blog, but some tidbits on Juolevi and Brendan Gaunce, and a pretty decent ranking for Canucks ownership from The Score.
