it's very simple what will happen:
nylander will eventually start in ahl, marner on leafs.
if/when lupul or michalek gets traded, nylander will take that spot. - MaximusAurelius

I think a lot of people confuse posters who say Marner won't make the team this year (except for a cup of coffee) as an attack on his ability. I don't think there's many that doubt he'll have a fantastic NHL career but I think it's a long shot he sticks with the team this year.
1. It's a number's thing
2. I can't imagine they want to have more than 5 or 6 rookies at any one time.
Zaitsev
Nylander
Matthews
Hyman
Soshnikov
Brown
Carrick
They're the guys I'd say get first dibs for Mike to concentrate on. Along with youngsters (still nearly rookies) such as:
Rychel
Marincin
3. Contract status. I'd imagine management wish to somewhat stagger the big 3 (at the moment).
4. The bigger picture. We still have numerous 1 year vets on the team that (most of) will be flipped for picks throughout the year. We still have Laich, Polak, Hunwick, Lupul, Michalek, Holland, Greening taking up 7 of the 23 spots. Add two tenders, JVR, Kadri, Komarov, Rielly, Gardiner, Marincin, Matthews, Nylander, Zaitsev, Bozak, Martin and you're up to 20 spots.
5. The Shanaplan. I think the value put on draft picks will continue for a while. I don't see the Leafs being a team that'll trade many picks unless it's for a position of dire need (see Andersen). I think the plan to shift expiring contracts for picks will remain for another year.
6. The expansion draft. Making sure they correct players play the right amount of games to be eligible/protected for the draft.
But above all else, TITS

Donaldson just got beaned. Somebody needs to kick somebody's azz. - fifty__missions
Baseball - needs to change its rules about pitchers throwing at and hitting players particularly the stars. Who cares about intent, a pitcher hits a guy - he's out of the game and suspended period. Too many dirty teams like Texas, Baltimore, K.C. and the Yankees throw intentionally at our best players - without penalty. If we retaliate - it is the Jays that get penalized. |

It's crazy for a team so good at pitching like the Royals, how often they unintentionally plunk opposing batters |

Suicide Squad is getting poopty reviews. They needed more Deadpool & less Chris Pratt. Tobey McGuire's cameo was kinda fun though |

Bullshiit Accident, two pitches last year over Donaldson's head, then one behind him, finally they hit him on the fourth attempt. He gets hit in the face after Travis hits one out. Yost is one of the dirtiest managers in baseball - no accident.

Yost is a piece of sh!t no doubt.
But it was an accident.
Simply no reason to toss at his face. Just watch the reaction of the pitcher and catcher.
No intent at all.

I don't think it was intentional last night, but due to the fact they often intentionally throw at batter's heads, I couldn't give a flying (frank). Just wish someone would've stabbed him. |

I'm guessing Joffrey Lupul has already played his last game as a Maple Leaf. Oh, and:
“We’re going the right way,” Babcock said. “We’re not trying to maintain. That maintain part is what kills you. It’s not easy to win in this League. But now, and this is no word of a lie, we’re loaded with kids. Real kids. There’s five or six who are going to score big-time in the NHL.”

Sosh, Hyman and Brown will not get spots before Marner.
The Leafs' future is Marner.
They aren't going to retard his development just so that a guy like Hyman can get 14 goals in the NHL this year.
Good morning, my Leafy friends. |

I've yet to see a single plausable explanation of how this can happen.
He won't go to Robidas Island.
Too late to buy him out.
He won't agree to termination of contract.
He won't be claimed on waivers.
It would cost too much to trade him.
Sending him to the AHL is a bad cap move.
What else is there?
Play him until he gets injured. It won't take long.

Not today - Tulo sees 7 inside pitches before he gets hit and injured - Accident? NO!
Bautista -in the last at bat where Texas play Jays this year gets plunked
Accident? NO!
Donaldson as the Jays are beating the crap out of the Royals in a series
last year sees two 95+ mph fastballs sail over his head then another
behind him before the pitcher plunks him. Accident NO!
Funny how all these accidents happen the the best players on the team,
it's never Goins or Barney or Carrera.
Glad you think there was no intent.

Agree - likely best move by team is to play him on a scoring line and hope he does really well. He does have ability. Four scenarios could possibly emerge.
1) He sucks and plays poorly - Not likely if he plays with talent.
2) He gets injured - Very possible - and he goes on IR at that point
3) He plays well and value goes up and gets moved at the deadline to a contender for picks.
4) He plays well and enough to get exposed in the expansion draft.

You're always telling people to relax
relax with the relax advice..
anyways, they didnt mean to hit him in the head, but as winsix was saying, they were pitching at him. Maybe to get him off the plate a bit, maybe to send a signal. I trust nothing when it comes to 3 teams, Royals, Orioles, and the Rangers... Those three teams hate the fact that the Jays are better than them. |

Not sure what you're referring to, but only person that responded to his post was me who said "if he has a successful camp he'll make the team". Are you denying that if he has a good camp and shows he's ready that he will be sent back anyways?
Also, what facts were presented? Those were guesses and hypotheticals.
