Well (frank) em then. At this point our D isn't terrible anymore. We're not bent over a barrel like we were. I'd say sign Gryba and be done with it. We risk losing another piece to expansion if we make that move this offseason anyway. I think we'll compete and win games and if we're anywhere close to a playoff position we become buyers and maybe add a piece at the deadline.

Conversely, if we're worried about the exposed Dman crippling our D depth, that'd mean we're still just as bad of a team. If the time comes where we go the 7 forwards, 3 defensemen route and losing that 4th Dmen would mean the crippling of our D corps, then our prospects and young players will have failed.

If we added another Dman and we end up exposing Davidson then so be it. If he didn't assert himself enough to take a spot in the top-4, he won't be that big of a loss in the long run. Same applies to Nurse and Reinhart in the following expansion draft. There's no sense letting the "fear" of losing Davidson stop us from improving the team.

I think there is too much concern over losing guys in the expansion draft.

I don't know all the rules, and I am much too lazy to try and search them up, but I thought an expansion team can only pick 1 player off a specific team's unprotected group.

So each team will only lose 1 player at most this upcoming expansion draft.

If the loss of one player virtually ruins the Oilers there are bigger problems than just losing that player.
