McDavid is going to be great that's for sure but to say right now that he's better than several established nhl players is ridiculous.

What if McDavid goes 15 games without a goal like a lot of sophomores?

What if for a 3rd year in a row he has another major injury?

McDavid has yet to play a full nhl season and because of that cannot be considered one of the top players. He could move up into that and probably has the best chance of doing so of all players but he isn't a top 20 nhl player yet.

I don't think McDavid's ranking is that big a deal. Is he better than some of the players ahead of him? Likely yes, but I take no issue with someone wanting more than 45 games at the NHL level to rank a player higher than 13th best forward in the world. 45 games is not a large sample size. It's not like they left him off the list completely.


Toews and Kopitar should be closer to each other, prob right next to each other.

It's not like they left him off the list completely.

Best career so far?
Best projected career?
Best player last year?
Projected best player for next year?

I assume the NHL.com list is a combination of the last two. Plus a tiny bias for the first.

Is then is this list taking into account fantasy value? I doubt it, but its possible since it is NHL.com. Not many PIMs or good +/- for McDavid

Is the criteria something like 'who do I want to start building my team around today to be good in the future' - definitely McDavid.
If its more like 'I am playing game 7 Stanley Cup final tomorrow and I can add one forward to my team' I could come up with 12 forwards I would take ahead of McDavid

Anyways, long post just to say, everyone list is subjective. It not a disrespect to have McDavid at 13th. Esspecially since he'll probably be in the top 3 or so for the next 15 years.
