To be fair he was criticizing someone else and referring to their ridiculous trade offers so I just pointed out he should probably look in the mirror before making that statement

The Canucks will be lucky if Rodin scores 10 goals this season. - Marwood
Exactly. The NHL is a much different beast than what Rodin is used to. Barring injury and if he is even in the lineup…I would be amazed to see 10 goals. |

I think that's a fallacy and an outdated view on the game. I'm not a stats lover, nor do I understand the graphs most bloggers use, but I don't believe in this taking liberties idea. If your PP is top 5 (ish) in the league let them whack away.
The current Stanley Cup Champions, don't have anyone to scare people. Trevor Daley or Eric Fehr would be their 'tough' guys.
They beat San Jose in the final. Who on San Jose is coming after you?
What about the conference finalists? Tampa. Are you going to worry about retaliation from Paquette or Brown? Probably not.
Still, they made it far.
The Blues and Ducks can handle themselves but sacrifice that for offensive talent, thus never living up to people's predictions of them.
You don't need tough guys. Tough players in the sense of work ethic and commitment (never say die attitude) but fighters and retaliators? Meh.
Take a punch, get yourself on the PP and put the game away.
Don't get me wrong, it was fun as (frank) watching Orr, McLaren, Mike Brown and Mark Fraser knock ten bells of poop out of the opposition game in, game out, but it didn't solve a thing. - walshyleafsfan
If you look carefully at a few of the Cup champs prior to the Pens what Vantel and a few others say have some merit. CHI had pretty tough teams and Keith and Seabrook to move guys around in from of the net…LA had the big D and the heavy forwards that would take no shat and even though we got jobbed a bit by Bettman vs Boston in 2011 we literally had no answer when the league let BOS do whatever the hell they wanted out there.
For what the Pens lack in a little bit of toughness they sure make up for in raw talent which the majority of teams just don't have. When you have the best player in the world in Crosby plus a surrounding cast of Letang Malkin Kessel and a few others sometimes that's enough to get you by in the PO's. Much like DET broke through a few years back and the Pens doing the same the moniker for winning changes from decade to decade for the most part. But one thing that stays pretty consistent is the toughness in the PO's factor…if you don't have 'some' of it..gonna be hard to contend without the sheer raw talent of the Crosby's of the world. |

Yeah cause that usually works in the playoffs......
I am sure you have watched the video of Marchand speed bagging Sedins face .....Embarrassing to have no fight back and it doesn't mean face punching all the time. - SMP8719 |

Players that go hard to the net. The year Van went to the finals, even the Sedins were one, two pass and the puck went to the net. There wasn't any playing the perimeter.

Imo it comes to controlling the the play with a couple quick moves. The reason San Jose was so successful this past season was because thats how they played one.. two.. on the net and quick transition if puck position was lost. |

Played my 1st round since I hurt my back. I am a little sore but good sore. Managed to play bogie golf after like 3 months of no golf. I missed like 4 easy birdies and at least dozen easy par shots. The putting was just not there at all. |

That course looks pretty sick. They've got zoo animals roaming on it, pretty epic.
Good thing Delaet shaved his beard, can only imagine the insects he'd bring home in that thing. |

Yeah where as Van played enter zone, shot, miss, follow the other team back down the ice. Need a little more zone time and players travelling up the ice together to create more options then just shot. |

That is a few strokes of my usual handy. I can tell its going to be a long road back after my injury. My swing is just not there right now. It was just good to get out though. |

Golfing with back injury is always difficult. I found doing some yoga and a little extra practice before helps loosen up. |
