I'll always favor Eric Desjardins but Kimmo Timonen really picked up where he left off. I respect Rico give up the "C" while he struggled with it.
Keith Primeau turned out to be a great Captain but at the time, how did you guys feel about Hitch choosing Primeau over Recchi and LeClair at the time? - roenick97
I doubt LeClair would have taken it.
Primeau was definitely the right choice at that time, even though there are folks (not me) that really hate Primeau. |

Bill, great post on Rico!
We were lucky to have him for as long as we did. The funny thing is, during those years with Desjardins and Lindros on the team, many fans knew that, while you could make due without Eric Lindros for stretches of time (as the team often had to do), losing Desjardins for any stretch of time was surely bad. Desjardins was definitely undervalued. |

I was on the fence with Primeau as captain. I will say he was very personable when I met him on a very bleak day, 9/11/01. |

I liked him as a player. There are many Flyers fans that will never forgive him for media comments made about Bill Barber's coaching regime, but the reality is, many of the prominent players from that era said similar, if not worse things: http://articles.philly.co...keith-primeau-bill-barber |

"I know I had an off year," Primeau said. "I accept blame for that and full responsibility. I'll accept that I was terrible in the playoffs. . . . I've seen a few players on good teams have off years. Explain to me why every one of our good players had an off year?"
It was himself and Recchi who had the down years, not everyone.
"I'm sticking up on behalf of my teammates, because I want to walk out of here with my pride intact," he said.
And like his entire career it's all about him. They players were getting creamed by the media and he and Recchi felt the need to turn it around on their coach.

Just watched the 2012 Alumni Game clip where Lindros fed LeClair for the goal.
So looking forward to November. |

Or your coach who lost his wife and had already lost his job just so you can feel better about yourself after not showing up for two months. |

Mostly... regretful.
I wish I was able to enjoy his full career here in Philadelphia without the injuries and off ice back and forth. Even if he hadn't won a cup it would have been a tremendous ride. I regret that there came a time where I really just wanted him to go away. |

Thanks Bill. DJ was great. He was consistent, and chipped in a goal here, and there. No one can ever question his work ethic, and he was a quiet leader to boot. He was one of my favorites when he played for the Flyers.
Any news about who the Flyers will be protecting, or not protecting during the expansion draft?
What line do you think that Weise play on? |

If you're gonna rip on one guy for speaking out against a coach and missing 2 months (figuratively), I figure you'd want to murder a guy who repeatedly spoke out against an organization (as did his parents) and sat out over a year (literally). |

Yea, what a legend. They had a whole segment on Preston and Steve this morning. They say he had the best interview in their shows history. Played some clips. Hilarious stuff. Check out the podcast if you can. Certainly worth it. |

Yeah, I bummed out over that yesterday. He was the best. I remember that show as much as kids remember Sesame Street; maybe even more fondly.

Never liked Primeau before or after the trade. Years on here of listening to people talk about retiring his number and what a great captain he was burns me. When he looks back on his career he should be embarrassed but I'm sure he's just patting himself on the back. |
