This. He's at least going to go through the process of talking to teams. He'd honestly be dumb not to. Why would you wait this long and then sign right before being a free agent. We got our shot to talk to him. We ensured we were the first ones in his ear. Now let him go and see what else is out there and if he wants to stay he'll stay.

In the end the Sabres can pay him the most money in 2 years after his ELC is up. Some really think Eichel is the main reason he comes here but it's not, it's one of them but not the main one.

But what we don't have is the big city (if he wants it), the closeness to home (6-7 hours driving v 3 or even none is big for family), or the chance to win in the short term. There are pros and cons to any team that goes after him. He has to rank those and decide which are the most important.

If I'm him I'm picking the Bruins just because I'm still a homer and I'll make money anywhere I go. But I'm not him.
