Hawks always find a way - SABRES 89
Find a way to what?
They very well could sign him right now
But there's no way they can guarantee him they'll have the $$$ for his 2nd or 3rd contract
Hossa will eventually come off the books
But their #1 priority (without a doubt) will be to sign Panarin
Maybe they find a way to keep Vesey too
But with their history,
He at least has to be concerned about it |

This is like asking "what's the best bait?" You can't answer the question posed like this as an absolute. Different boozes serve different purposes.
Trying to lay your burdens down? Brown liquor on big cubes w a dash of bitters. (I prefer Red Breast Irish Whiskey or El Dorado Aged Rum.)
Trying to cool off on a wicked hot night? Beefeaters w tonic on crushed ice, wedge of lime (or better, cucumber)
Just something to sustain you through the weekend chores - "Swill Beer"? Genny Red Eye (the Oktoberfest is pretty good too) - Der Kaiser[I also swill Labatts Blue].
Rubbing elbows w a client or investor? Brooklyn Ale or whatever he's drinking.
So you draft for need, and not best player available. That's cool. Like I said earlier there may be days when cider goes before margarita, and scotch may go before wine on some days (mainly in winter), but there will always be some boozes that rise above the rest and make you regret not picking them earlier.
For me it's absinthe, but it is expensive...entry level goes for $50 a bottle and top-10 absinthe $75-$90 but what you get is term....a little goes a long way so the "contract" is more front-loaded, and gets friendlier later on, and the term is way longer than a bottle of bourbon in my house. Bulleit bourbon has the same entry-level commitment but far, far less term. |

If we don't get Vesey it might be a good time to take a" vacation day " from the blog, i'm sure it's going to get really ugly here and in Garth's blog. |

Outside chance at the time was the Islanders. |

I just don't get what's so appealing about the Devils at all. Apart from Hall what do they have ? Henrique is a good player and Zacha is a good prospect but out of all 30 NHL teams to choose from I don't get the appeal |

Any idea of there's a "plan B" if we can't get him?
Many have mentioned Hudler or Pirri
I guess I'd be ok with that |

Hawks are toast. Vesey might pick them. But he'd prove not as smart as a normal Harvard kid.
They were a mediocre team last year, and have a very old defense core, with 0 defense depth. They have Hossa at 37 years old still signed for years, an expensive goalie, and fading depth.
They have 3 cups, so it was worth it. But there run is over in the west IMO |

So if the Sabres are in " better shape " why hasn't he signed here ? and we have Eichel and we can pay him the most when all is said and done. |

I think you're counting them out too soon
They might not win another Cup,
But they'll still be one of the top teams in the West for years & have just as good a shot as anyone |

They are going to have to buy out that Hossa contract soon. If he retires early it'll cost them a ton in re-capture penalties. |

His camp has been very quite as to what they are thinking or talking about, they have not said much at all except that he's waiting. Where all these reports are coming from that he's zeroing in a team or two is beyond me. They aren't saying anything at all, they are only listening as of now. |

thought Hossa's deal was before penalties kick in, so he goes off the books as soon as he retires |
