Vesey is unnecessary - BINGO!
If he signs here cool, I just don't see what the big deal about him is.
Off topic, his dad had a pretty solid minor league career, really lit up the IHL and AHL. Had size, wonder why he didn't make it. |

I'm curious as to what you guys think about your chances with Vesey because of Lou's desire to not give out bonuses. Isn't he notorious for not giving them out. Not crap talking, just kinda curious as it took a little bit to sign AM (eventually he caved) but the rookie contracts for the first OA is usually cut and dry as far as salary is concerned. I thought the word was a little dispute about bonuses. If he's willing to dispute with the first OA, why would he just give into Vesey? |

Vesey falls more into the Zaitsev category, so Lou will give him his bonuses. But I still don't see him signing here. Again, i just don't think he's that good. |

Yeah. He's 23 years old and put up good, not great, numbers in college. |

Toronto has worked hard to change its culture to one of accountability and earning your ice-time. For the Leafs to promise this kid anything in their pitch would ruin all that.
If Vesey is asking for ice-time and to crack the NHL roster without any merit, he should (frank) off and the Leafs should be focusing their time and effort and money elsewhere.
My 2 cents. - AustonPowers
The Leafs should tell it like it is, and I think they will.
He will be given a shot. He has to earn where and how often he plays.
ANY team that tells him different is full of crap. If he sh1ts the bed coming out of the gate he'll start to lose ice time and line position. Nobody is going to just give him a guaranteed 1st line job. |

You'll wait a couple years then trade Mathews for a second pair shutdown RHD...

Best part is he has changed his blog title twice since his thread has been locked and doesn't seem to have a clue. - Iggysbff
He was wondering why he didn't get any more hits.
He doesn't understand that people are terrified of seeing 19 yr old boys in jean shorts. |

Lou didn't cave. He just took his time. What was the rush? Also why would they meet with him if they have no interest in paying him? |

We would then have a glaring hole of legit wingers who are proven and can score. Not the best idea when you should be giving Matthews and Kadri opportunities to succeed rather than throwing them out there with plugs and 3rd liners and unproven players.
This team has several glaring needs and holes. Creating a hole to fill another is pointless imo. Sideways steps, not progress. - systemtool
Top right handed d don't become available when you need them, typically teams need to develope them. Leafs are overflowing with wingers and the position is the easiest to fill through free agency and trades. Jvr represents great value at a very important time and should be used to provide Reilly with a stable counterpart. |

If Taylor Hall only returned an Adam Larsson than JVR is worth less than Larsson. I'll keep my JVR everyday of the week. Wouldn't even trade him straight up for Larsson. Maybe you want to trade him for a draft pick? Well only if it's a top 5 pick and none of the losing rebuilders are going to make that trade either. |

There wasn't one, and I don't know his history, but some have said he doesn't like bonuses. I didn't think it wasn't going to get done with Matthews, but usually the first OA gets everything they can. They were the first selected. Just curious to what you guys with more insight into him though about bonuses as it pertained to vesey. |
