Ryan Miller, Paul Kariya and Neal Broten were also Baker winners - weren't bad NHLers. Of course Vancouver only got the twilight years from Miller. Very few talented US College players like Patrick Kane, Mike Modano - stay in the US - because of the better competition offered in Canadian Minor Hockey. Vesey may be an exception, not sure - we'll see.

Toronto has worked hard to change its culture to one of accountability and earning your ice-time. For the Leafs to promise this kid anything in their pitch would ruin all that.

If Vesey is asking for ice-time and to crack the NHL roster without any merit, he should (frank) off and the Leafs should be focusing their time and effort and money elsewhere.

Lupul, Laich, Komarov-----------consider this the TDD special OR the waiting area for Robidas Island Tours. Flip Martin and Komarov as needed. When we play a team with a dirty wiener....Martin. When we don't Komarov.

What little I saw of Hyman - thought he was decent. You are probably right that on a good team - neither is in the top six. That said - getting an asset that is perceived as a middle first round caliber talent for only money - is worth a gamble - otherwise no team would be interested. If the Leafs land him surely he will be better than Biggs.

I know you said you weren't bitter on Stamkos, but it certainly read that way. Haha.

He's a high-character guy. I give him a lot of credit for wanting to stay with the organization he came up with and helped put on the map.

Have to respect a guy that doesn't want to sign somewhere simply for money (don't get me wrong, he got big bucks from Tampa, but could have gotten more in TOR), or to become the face for a product and have his image stamped throughout the country in various advertisements.

Kind of refreshing to know there's still some guys out there who don't want the lime light and to be under the microscope.

I've heard he's a private guy and is happy he can go to a lot of places in Tampa and not be recognized. He'd be mobbed in Toronto, I bet.
