Someone in the top 4 right now would have to go in any deal for a top pair guy otherwise you end up putting someone like McCabe on the bottom pair which is no good for his development or you end up with the most expensive bottom pair in the NHL which is even worse.

McCabe makes less than Franson and Gorges. You already have an expensive 3rd pairing, they're just going to drop off soon.

It starts with a first. Then probably a really good prospect. And then roster player. And then that's all just a guess. I'm having a hard time thinking of top 2 guys that have been traded lately and what their price was (Other than Subban but that's an anomaly)
