Isn't the entire NHL a money grab ...I mean this is a Canucks thread ...a team that is retooling and not rebuilding because their owners want to stay competitive and shoot for playoffs ...more revenues ...might as well boycott that too then ?

I like that those guys probably have a chip on their shoulders and bring the competitive level up. I remember reading a few comments from the 3 on 3 all star game where a few guys started trying, so then they tried harder and eventually the pace increased to something entertaining. I dont think this tournament will take time to bring the intensity up, partly because these Frankenstein teams will want to show up the big clubs, but its fun to be able to see a PP unit with McDavid and Eichel on it, which would never happen anywhere else
- WhiteLie

Yeah that 3 on 3 all star game was the best, it wasn't a game it was a mini tournament like Rugby 7s, most entertaining all star game in years.

It's a best on best tournament ...I can't see how anyone wouldn't have interest at least to start the tournament
- Redmile247

It's a stupid tournament and I don't care for it one bit.
I may watch a couple minutes during Bachelor in Paradise commercials, but other than that I will not be looking to watch the games.

How can anyone not be excited to see some top notch hockey? summers are always a killer for me, as I'm a die-hard fan of the game (and not just the Canucks) and am not able to anywhere satiate my hockey needs! (thanks to Carol and the rest of you lot for making things a little easier, though, in at least getting a bit of a fix to tide me over until the puck officially drops).

I think it will be quite interesting to see how the North American and European teams fair. I like the outside of the box thinking in terms of how the rosters shape up (based on the make-up of the teams, it should be very competitive and there shouldn't be any blow-outs, the likes of which we see in the Olympics involving countries who are simply not at the same elite level as Canada, US, Sweden etc). It should all be high-end and quality hockey throughout the tournament. Can't wait

I think it'll be interesting to watch the young stars play against the big boys. As long as their goaltending holds up it'll be very entertaining. That extra motivation will be there for the older guys not to lose meanwhile the younger guys have nothing to lose and are oozing talent.

It's going to be poop hockey, and people who expect it to be anything more are deluding themselves. Do you really think the players are going to want to play as hard they do in the regular season/playoffs during the time they normally are in training camp/exhibition season? This isn't the 1984/88 Canada Cup we're talking about.

Interesting thought, I'm expecting competitive hockey, anything less and I'll tune out. So will thousands of others, if this is a allstar hug and kiss fest I'll be really disappointed...

Best on best has it's merits, but it's September which is football season not hockey season. I'm not looking forward to it, I may watch when the time comes but as of now I have little to no interest.

From last blog:

Overpaid, sure, but not crippling. $2.5m with RFA status coming up after the season isnt the worst contract to take on. Plus being that young, there is the potential for improvement.

You cant just have one Russian, you need pairs/lines/groups... those are the successful teams

- WhiteLie

2 Russians already, reached our quota

Im not sure why players wouldnt try hard? You're right that this isnt the playoffs, I expect it to be much more entertaining from a skill perspective. There wont be the heavy shot blocking or guys fighting through injuries and grinders, but this is the perfect showcase for a lot of players looking to cement their value in the league. Those RFA's can go back to their GM's and say, look how I performed against the top 120+ players the world has to offer, and vets like Crosby/Chara/Ovechkin/etc wont want to be embarrassed or shown up in an event of this size. There isnt any more or less incentive to win here than the Canada Cup

It will be interesting to see how this tournament plays out - is there going to be some hard hitting or is it a game of keep away?
I'm looking more forward to the Canucks young stars tourny on the same weekend - wifey bought me tickets for me birthday

They are absolutely anti-Canuck comments. If I wasn't a diehard Vegas fan I would PM you about how much I hate you

Still remember Bossy's O/T game winner against the Russians in the semi-final... what a great game that was to watch.

It was called the greatest single game played at the time. Not sure if anything surpassed it since.

I'll record them all cause it's hard to watch hockey at 4 in the afternoon when the weather is still great.

Hockey only happens in the summer for me!

I have been waiting all winter, a particularly wet and cold winter for hockey to return and even the surf has been crap this winter.

Canucks games start 4.30pm for me most of the season so I rarely see the puck drop either
