It's going to be poop hockey, and people who expect it to be anything more are deluding themselves. Do you really think the players are going to want to play as hard they do in the regular season/playoffs during the time they normally are in training camp/exhibition season? This isn't the 1984/88 Canada Cup we're talking about. - DariusKnight
Frankly, I don't care what people expect (and one could say people that don't anticipate all of that incredible talent to perform well are the delusional ones). I know it will be enjoyable to watch (especially after going without any hockey all summer long). I doubt we'll see the intensity of playofffs or a playoff drive but I still think there is going to be a lot of great talent to watch and it will be a fun and competitive tournament (hockey players are competitive people and there will be a lot of pride on the line, anytime there is any sort of international element involved). The only concern I have is with respect to injuries - hopefully the players that are participating will prepare properly and there won't be any significant issues. Again, I'm really looking forward to it |

If he wants to come and Aquillini wants to pay him it won't hurt my feelings but he'll probably rank somewhere between new hot dogs and the sleep doctor in his impact on actual wins and losses.
He seemed like a pretty smart level headed guy. He could probably start pursuing an actual coaching career. |

There's the understatement of the year.
It's going to be silly allstar hockey. I don't care for this tournament and will not be going out of my way to watch or cheer for some random team. |

Exactly, there's literally nothing on the line that wasn't contrived by the NHL/NHLPA. It's just an exhibition tournament solely to replace the ASG every 4 years to get corporate sponsors to buy into the NHL. It's also a way for the NHL/PA to thumb their nose at the IIHF and IOC for not being willing to pay for travel/insurance for players so that the NHL/PA would sanction players going to the next Winter Olympics in South Korea.
Again, anyone expecting something like the 1972 Summit Series or the 1984/88 Canada Cup tourney is going to be disappointed. There's no more Cold War on to make a tournament like this be compelling and with it not being sanctioned by the IIHF and being run by the NHL with NHL rules/officials, it's not even a real World Cup. It's like MLS soccer putting on a tourney with all the best nations but under MLS rules/officials and no FIFA approval and calling it the World Championships, it's just not the same. |

jarvis is known as a defensive specialist....and has run special teams.
Never heard of him being faceoff guy, but who knows maybe he does that too.
I'll say this, however ran the D during the playoffs against pittsburg a few years ago (when they swept them) was a genius. Not sure if it was Jarvis or Houda that year. Whoever it was he sure knew how to protect the goal wow.
I'm sure theres some video on youtube or something for those who wish to review it. - SMBDragon
Jarvis was a Selke winning player before becoming a coach. He has a very rich history of skills to surround the youth in Vancouver. Look him up. You won't be disappointed.

I don't think there are many people expecting the Summit Series or 1984/88 Canada Cup (you are the only one so far that has referenced these series as any sort of comparison). No one said this was going to be 7th game overtime intensity; however, it will be great entertainment nonetheless. If you choose not to watch then so be it, you are the one missing out on some great hockey. And that's what I care about, I couldn't give a rat's ass about the internal mechanisms or dynamics of the genesis of this tournament, whether it be from a NHLPA or NHL or IIHF perspective (the same goes for the name of the tournament - it can be called the Toronto Bongfest 2016 for all I care). I'll be there to watch a whole slew of talent showcasing themselves and bringing my favourite sport back on t.v. as soon as possible. |

Agreed. The hockey could be shlt, but it could be interesting as well. I don't know why any hockey fan would write it off before it has even started. |

I'm not that excited but I will probably watch anyways. I'm interested to see how the Sedins fair with Eriksson and that's about it. |

The hockey will be poop. But if it's on I will watch it. As long as the Jays aren't playing at that time.
To be honest, I don't even know when the games start, where they are played on what teams are involved. |

Or get injured and miss 2 months to start the season.
I'm interested if the players are under contractual obligations to play. I wouldn't be surprised to see players start to pull out. Makes no sense for Crosby to play after having a long cup run, concussion issues, and trying to stay healthy for this upcoming season. |

Money grab of course. It will benefit HRR which can help raise future salary caps. (just like those ridiculous stadium series outdoor games that one year).
It's not the Olympics, so let's not compare it. It's hockey season early! I'm fascinated about Team NA. It'll be awesome to see how they do. I'd like to see them win actually. But obviously I'll cheer for Canada. But, if Canada does win, I won't be running out into the streets waving my flag.
It's hockey. Should be entertaining. Great warmup to the year.
Save the Olympics for the Olympics. |

Still remember Bossy's O/T game winner against the Russians in the semi-final... what a great game that was to watch.
It was called the greatest single game played at the time. Not sure if anything surpassed it since. - kaptaan
Coffey breaking up the 2 on 1. Bossy with the redirect out of mid air. I was pretty young and I remember that sequence.
Meant a lot more to the fans and players when the Russians were still over in Russia. |
